I do have Irish blood. I'm about 15%. My mothers maiden name is McDonald. I'm one of many in line of red-heads.

Well there you go... Guinness: It's in your blood.

Plausibly deniable fluffy statement: I may, or may not have had the same experience partaking of a similar, dark, mild barley drink.

Fluffy statement of fact: I too have Irish ancestry.

Welcome to the stout-side.

Minor updates

I don't like IPA's.
Ale's are good, and Lager's are 2nd place. Stout's are OK, but still a bit strong for me to properly enjoy it.

That's about the extent of my knowledge of fermented barley.

so glad to see this post from NOM 1.0!

I have never tried a long island iced tea...on my bucket list. If I am ordering a mixed drink it is almost always a red sangria or a Tom Collins.

Usually I drink an Angry Orchard or Dos Equis when I eat out. But I want to pick up something fun for the weekend cook out. Any suggestions?

If you like the sweet things - try the Mike's hard sodas. Also, Kahlua Mudsliders are awesome straight or with icecream. Carolans is my favorite Irish Cream liquor; so smooth and silky sweet you hardly know it's something other than dessert. It's really good in coffee.

An easy sweet adult weekend treat is assorted frozen mixed berries blended up with Sanpellegrino Aranciata Rossa and some good tequila. Espolon is an excellent tequila that's not expensive.

Tequila is also awesome in grapefruit juice with a splash of lime - called a Paloma.

There's so many favorites, but there's a few new ones to try.

It's a shame that the Beer 101 thread was on the old board and not this one. There was a lot of good information in that thread. IIRC cwald covered pretty much everything with me sharing my thoughts on lagers (since I find them often unfairly treated as if lager was synonymous with Bud/Miller/Coors Light).

Wow you really took the "Nestea Plunge"

My stomach instantly pukes up alcohol so I've never really experienced it but as someone who has bounced I've definitely seen its effects.

Edit: As to what I'm currently drinking, it's Braxton Brewing Co. 1957 All Star Ale. It's a nutty English dark mild ale that goes down smooth and really makes me wish the six pack I picked up while I was in Cincinnati consisted of pint cans rather than 12 ouncers. Proof that good tasty beer doesn't have to be heavy hitting as it's only 4% ABV.

In this context Mad Jax is referencing having been a bouncer in the past. The vocation of brave souls charged with keeping inebriated or overly enthusiastic people from making too much trouble both to the establishment and other customers.

Ahh, yes I'm well aware of what a Bouncer is, it just didn;t click this time. Must by my TBM heritage showing through.

The current version of the New Belgium Folly 12-pack is *so good*.

Image

It has the classic Fat Tire, the crucial IPA (Voodoo Ranger), and two really good citrus beers in the Lime Citradelic and Juicy Watermelon Lime Ale.

Seriously, I'm just obsessed with the current assortment. Also just looked up New Belgium brewery out of curiosity and see that it's employee-owned and regularly ranked as one of the best places to work in America. Gotta love when one of your favorite brewers also has ethical business practices. :D

Sipping some Russel's Reserve bourbon and watching Drunk History. An enjoyable way to spend the afternoon.

Some Writer's Tears Red Head Irish whiskey (finished in Sherry barrels). I'm still not sure how I feel about Irish whiskey.

I'm enjoying a Chivas Regal 18 mini-bottle I scored for $2. A smooth pleasant sipper, I was almost blown away when I looked up what a full sized bottle would cost. There are just so many other whiskies I'd rather spend the money on for what this one delivers. Hell, I could pick up a Laphroaig 10 YR and a Russel's Reserve 10 YR Small Batch for the cost or take the step up to the RR Single Barrel and order a pizza to go with it.

WT 101 was the first bourbon that I genuinely enjoyed rather than endured so I've got fond memories of it. I'm thinking of picking up a bottle of Rare Breed when my bottle of RR is gone or hoping for a sale and biting the bullet and trying the single barrel offering of the RR. I may be a Wild Turkey fanboy in the making, I know if I were to drive south to Kentucky to hit up the Bourbon Trail they'd be my first stop.

I haven't tried any Irish Whiskey aside from some Jameson once upon a time and I honestly don't even remember what I thought of it at the time (probably yuck honestly).

I wish they would bring back Ironport to grocery stores. Today's watered down cream sodas do not cut it. It seems terrible for an entire generation to suffer from Ironport deficiency.

BTW, it is said this wonderful beverage was named after Mormon assassin Porter Rockwell.
