A little Christmas music NOM-style:

Audioslave - Be Yourself (YouTube)

Someone falls to pieces
Sleeping all alone
Someone kills the pain
Spinning in the silence
She finally drift away
Someone gets excited
In a chapel yard
Catches a bouquet
Another lays a dozen
White roses on a grave

And be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do

Someone finds salvation in everyone
Another only pain
Someone tries to hide themself
Down inside himself he prays
Someone swears their true love
Until the end of time
Another runs away
separate or united?
Healthy or insane?

And be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
Be yourself is all that you can do

Even when you've paid enough
Been pulled apart
Or been held up
Every single memory of
The good or bad, faces of love
Don't lose any sleep tonight
I'm sure everything will end up alright
You may win or lose

But to be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can do (all that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can
Be yourself is all that you can
Be yourself is all that you can do
Faith does not give you the answers, it just stops you asking the questions. -Frater Ravus

Some of the tough topics on NOM lately have brought this song to mind. We are born in a diamond mine. It's all around you but you can't see it...

Creature Comfort - Arcade Fire

It's not painless...

Another song that reminded me of recent discussions on NOM.

I stumbled on to this little gem while watching Dark on Netflix. I kind of love it.

When I was done dying
When I was done dying, my conscience regained
So I began my struggle, a nothingness strained
Out a flash made of time, my new form blasted out
And it startled me so and I burst out a shout
At which my legs ran frantic like birds from a nest
And I ran until drained, leaving no choice but rest
So I fell asleep softly at the edge of a cave
But I should have gone in deeper but I'm not so brave
And like that I was torn out and thrown in the sky
And I said all my prayers because surely I'll die
As I crashed down and smashed into earth, into dirt
How my skin did explode, leaving only my shirt
But from shirt grew a tree and then tree grew a fruit
And I became the seed and that seed was a brute
And I clawed through the ground with my roots and my leaves
And I tore up the shirt and I ate up the sleeves
And they laughed out at me and said "what is your plan?"
But their question was foreign, I could not understand
When then suddenly I'm ripped up and placed into a mouth
And it swallowed me down at which time I head south
I said hey ya ya hey ya ya hey ya ya hey ya ya hey ya ya

Well I woke up to see them, these two mighty steeds
With their mouths grinning wildly expressing my needs
As they stood there above me, being flanked on each side
I felt no need to fear them, no reason to hide
So I reached up to touch but they faded too soon
Yet their mouths still remained and stacked up towards the moon
How that ladder of mouth waved so soft in the night
And I looked up in awe at that beautiful sight
And I dreamt about climbing into the night sky
But I knew had I touched them they'd mouth back "Bye-bye"
So I got up and walked down the path in the dark
And there deep in the distance my eye caught a spark
Of a crab twice my size with incredible strength
Oh, it greeted me kindly and then we all drank
And we drooled out together right onto the ground
And the ocean grew up quickly right up all around
And the earth looked at me and said "Wasn't that fun?"
And I replied "I'm sorry if I hurt anyone"
And without even thinking cast me into space
But before she did that she wiped off my own face
She said better luck next time don't worry so much
Without ears I couldn't hear I could just feel the touch
As I feel asleep softly at the edge of a cave
But I should have gone deeper but I'm not so brave
I said hey ya ya hey ya ya hey ya ya hey ya ya hey ya ya

A Perfect Circle - Disillusioned
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u05S9cq2bLY
We have been overrun by our animal desire
Addicts of the immediate keep us obedient and unaware
Feeding this mutation, this pavlovian despair
We've become disillusioned
So we run towards anything glimmering

Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis and re connect to the resonance now
You were never an island
Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher

Willingly been re-wired by clever agents within
Looping our reflections, our obsessions draw us in
Fix and fixation, no sentience beyond
We've become disillusioned
So we dive like crows towards anything glittering

Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis and re connect to the resonance now
You were never an island
Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher
Joywave - Doubt

Tell me all the things I'm supposed to like
What you want to hear, what think is right
I'm not present, my thoughts are misaligned
'Cause every time I close my eyes too tight
It's the Fall of 1929
A panic, playing out in black and white
I fill myself with doubt, I feel like I sold out
I feel like I am down, I'm down without a doubt
I feel like I let down, everyone around
I feel like nothing counts, I'm down without a doubt
I've filled myself with doubt
Maybe I was made for normal life
Where I'm in at nine and I'm out by five
And there's goals, I'd hit them every time
I could sell plans of different types
To wealthy men and their trophy wives
And go home to see the kids at night
I fill myself with doubt, I feel like I sold out
I feel like I've been down, I'm down without a doubt
I feel like I let down, everyone around
I feel like nothing counts, I'm down without a doubt
I've filled myself with doubt
Never good enough, never satisfied with nothing
Never good enough, never satisfied with nothing
Never good enough, never satisfied with nothing
Never good enough, never satisfied with nothing
Never good enough, never satisfied with nothing
Never good enough, never satisfied with nothing
I fill myself with doubt, I feel like I sold out
I feel like I've been down, I'm down without a doubt
I feel like I let down, everyone around
I feel like nothing counts, I'm down without a doubt
I've filled myself with doubt (with doubt, with doubt)

Malmo

I don't wanna live
Like an apologist
Keep it to yourself
You and your followers
Oh you silly people

I don't wanna fear
Somebody watching me
Apple in your eye
This is the Holocene
And everybody has to laugh

Oh you were the captain
You couldn't fail
Sink to the bottom
With nowhere to sail
No more distractions
Nothing to hear
Keeping a distance
Over the years

All of these years
All of these years
All of these years

Hope you feel like dancing!

You might recognize the tune ;)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOQXXXnR50k

A Greater God

A boy was born 'mid little things
Between a little world and sky-
And dreamed not of the cosmic rings
'Round which the circling planets fly

He lived in little works and thoughts
Where little ventures grow and plod
And paced and plowed his little plots
And prayed unto his little God

But as the mighty system grew
His faith grew faint with many scars;
The Cosmos widened in his view-
But God was lost among His stars

Another boy in lowly days
As he, to little things was born
But gathered lore in woodland ways
And from the glory of the morn

As wider skies broke on his view
God greatened in his growing mind;
Each year he dreamed his God anew
And left his older God behind

He saw the boundless scheme dilate
In star and blossom, sky and clod;
And as the universe grew great
He dreamed it for a greater God
“Sir,' I said to the universe, 'I exist.' 'That,' said the universe, 'creates no sense of obligation in me whatsoever.”

The next song from the upcoming A Perfect Circle album. I shared on FB, but doubt that those I think could benefit from what's being said would even bother to understand.

https://youtu.be/-aOyAvbj2Fg

You're waiting (you're waiting ...)
On miracles (on miracles ...)
We're bleeding out (bleeding out ...)

Thoughts (thoughts ...)
And prayers (prayers ...)
Adorable (crisis ...)
Like cake in a crisis (in a crisis ...)
We're bleeding out (bleeding out ...)

While you deliberate
Bodies accumulate

Sit and talk like Jesus
Try walkin' like Jesus
Sit and talk like Jesus
Talk like Jesus
Talk talk talk talk
Get the f* out of my way

[Bridge]
Don’t be the problem, be the solution
Don’t be the problem, be the solution
Don’t be the problem, be the solution
Problem, problem, problem, problem

Faith without works is
Talk without works is
Faith without works is
Talk without works is
Faith without works is
Dead, dead, dead, dead

Sit and talk like Jesus
Try walkin' like Jesus
Sit and talk like Jesus
Try walkin' like Jesus
Try braving the rain
Try lifting the stone
Try extending a hand
Try walkin' your talk or get the f* out of my way
Somewhere on a toilet wall I read the words 'You form a line to formalize the former lies.' And I finally saw the truth - Slipknot

That was very cool. I love Hugh Jackman as much as any straight man could. Seems like a very cool human being.

Like I mentioned, I knew nothing of this song or Keala Settle before last night. It was pretty amazing watching that performance, it's kinda amazing discovering she has Mormon ties. One of the drummer kids in that Oscar performance was literally the doppelganger of one of my kids, who are the reason I've left the church. The whole thing left us all in a little bit of disbelief watching it and hearing the message of the song. The spirit was strong last night in the Lamachina household. ;)

Just came out today. Love it!

Breaking Benjamin - Psycho
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Y_a0PWlBr8
Lyrics:
Into the bottom I will go
I feel the daylight choking
Into the vile I've become
I am forever changing

In the cold eternal light
I am the ember fading
Every scar we try to hide
I am the fake you make me

Into the hollow I let go
I see the darkness close in
Into the silence I've become
I am the faith forsaken

In the cold eternal light
I am the ember fading
Every scar we try to hide
I am the fake you make me

Psycho, let go
I am the one embracing
Psycho, faithful
I am the rupture breaking

In the cold eternal light
I am the ember fading
Every scar we try to hide
I am the fake you make me

Psycho, let go
I am the one embracing
Psycho, faithful
I am the rupture breaking

I haven’t seen the movie and this was the first time hearing the song/watching... you warned about tissues and you were not kidding. I had goosebumps the whole time too. Beautiful. Reminds me of parts of Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise.”
