Mountain Top by Radwimps.

It is a Japanese band but I promise it's in English and you probably wouldn't even know they are Japanese if I didn't tell you. I love the song. The video is a visual treat but that part is just a bonus to the beautiful song.

"Obey the way you truly believe
Don’t let others rule over you
Life will never be that easy with bag full of
All your Ancestor’s lessons

I’m alone on a mountain top
Nobody can answer me or none of them can follow me
but you climbed up high to the sky above
How do I look from your place right now?

Some might compete their bravery
They carry around in nicest box
Be careful not to forget the right way to open it up
Or you’ll miss when you need it then
You should keep it next to your soul

I’m alone on a mountain top
Nobody can answer me or none of them look straight at me
but You climbed up high to the sky above
How am I supposed to hide my pride?

I’m a dreamer, A believer, no surrender
Don’t even know way turning back
Let’s go deeper, let’s go higher, show me your ego

Obey the way you truly believe
Don’t let others rule over you
Life will never be that easy but hey descendants
Guess that’s all I could say to you
All the rest is now up to you"

Just posted this in support but I felt it should go in here too.. sometimes you have to let people and things go, even if they are family and loved ones.

"I Am Not Nothing"
Beth Crowley

No one ever made me feel as small as you did
No one made me feel as cursed
I'd lie awake in bed just staring at the ceiling
Wondering if things would get worse

I was trapped under your thumb
Believing when you called it love

But I will forgive myself
And start to let it go
Accept that who you chose to be
Was out of my control
And though it might be hard
To begin again
I'll write myself a brand new story
With a happy end
I survived
So tonight
I am taking back my life
And I'll show you
That I am not nothing

I kept my head above the water
'Til the moment when all the elements aligned
And I could fly away to heal my broken spirit
And leave my demons far behind
You always said that I was weak
But the bravest thing I did was leave

So I will forgive myself
And start to let it go
Accept that who you chose to be
Was out of my control
And though it might be hard
To begin again
I'll write myself a brand new story
With a happy end
I survived
So tonight
I am taking back my life
And I'll show you
That I am not nothing

Looking up at the sky
I think I see the start of a sunrise

And I will forgive myself
And start to let it go
Accept that who you chose to be
Was out of my control
And though it might be hard
To begin again
I'll write myself a brand new story
With a happy end
I survived
So tonight
I am taking back my life
And I'll show you
That I am not nothing
I'll show you
That I am not nothing

Lots of good lyrics - more I still need to go through in this thread.

This one resonated with me today:

This was my go to inspiration song from the time it was released. Even during my TBM days, I would return to it when things in the church got tough. Still one of my favourites.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I'm mostly ABC, anything but country.

Lots of music listed already, so little time. Gotta multitask:

Winter is back in Utah today. It's funny how many folks freak out and get bitchy about snow this time of year. It's still winter people, get over it! I for one am not ready to mow the lawn and swat mosquitoes. As long as the white walkers are not marching in, I'm happy with winter. Reminded me of this song today by the Screaming Trees:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mujyIyFuSgg

Jesus knocking on my door
Late last night and early this morning
Window glass, rusted and weary
I went straight through
Didn't hear no warning
Just a roll of the dice
And a precious vice
To bring you round, it's easier
When I'm wasting my time
And I'm losing my mind
Oh my mind
Try to wait for the sky to fall
It's kind of hard not to see it all
Whisper a song of winter in your heart
Dead end street, just out my back door
I heard what's seen, a young girl laughing
Now raindrops fall away like souls
I wondered if she ever heard mine dying
Just a roll of the dice, and a precious vice
To bring you round, it's easier
When I'm wasting my time
And I'm losing my mind
Oh my mind
Trying to wait for the sky to fall
It's kind of hard now to see it all
Whisper a song of winter in your heart
Trying to wait for the sky to fall
It's kind of hard now to see it all
Whisper a song of winter in your heart
Jesus knocking on my door
One last time, and early this morning
“Sir,' I said to the universe, 'I exist.' 'That,' said the universe, 'creates no sense of obligation in me whatsoever.”

Where has this song been all of my life? I loved American Pie growing up; still enjoy singing along if it happens to come on.

I didn’t know who the song was about at first... I kicked myself for not figuring it out. I think it’s so beautiful. My son (19) loves it too.
He heard a Jim Croce song And liked it, so I had to share Operator and Leroy Brown plus James Taylor’s Sweet Baby James (which is still my first go to if in need of a lullaby). Thank goodness we started pulling out the old songs because it lead me/us to this one.

I'm surprised no one had mentioned the award winning pop song literally about stepping away from TBM Mormonism.

It's Time by Imagine Dragons.

A couple notes: My 12YO son is on a big Image Dragons kick, so we got him piano arrangements of their songs and they are not simplified. He is pretty good with this one.

On the song itself, per lead singer Dan Reynolds, "the accademy" is BYU, and the "city never sleeps at night" is Vegas.
So this is what you meant
When you said that you were spent
And now it's time to build from the bottom of the pit, right to the top
Don't hold back
Packing my bags and giving the Academy a rain check

I don't ever want to let you down
I don't ever want to leave this town
'Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night

It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
I'm never changing who I am

So this is where you fell
And I am left to sell
The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell right to the top
Don't look back
Turning to rags and giving the commodities a rain check

I don't ever want to let you down
I don't ever want to leave this town
'Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night

It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
I'm never changing who I am

It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
I'm never changing who I am

This road never looked so lonely
This house doesn't burn down slowly
To ashes
To ashes

It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
I'm never changing who I am

It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
I'm never changing who I am

Blindlove - I Wanna Be Okay
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhL-1FCWh0Q
I'm scared to go out today
I'm anchored in doubt
Been pacing a line from the sink to the couch
See life through a windowpane
And it's never easy to hear your name
And right now I'm needing to make a new change
I know I'll never be the same
Just wanna be okay
I wanna be okay
Have you seen the sun today?
And is the sky still blue?
I'm searching for sounds and for anything new
Just something you can't contain
And it's never easy to hear your name
And right now I'm needing to make a new change
I know I'll never be the same
Just wanna bе okay
I wanna be okay
I wanna be okay
I wanna be okay
I wanna bе okay
And I know that it's never easy to hear your name
And right now I'm needing to make a new change
And I know I'll never be the same
Just wanna be okay
I wanna be okay
I wanna be okay

Bring Me The Horizon - Obey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AolstL1_MhE
Another day another post-traumatic order
(Brainwashed and feeling fine)
I bit off more than I could chew when I looked closer
So I stabbed a fork in my eye
think I’m losing my fucking mind
Don’t know where to turn, now I’m blind
Destroy yourself it feels so good to fade away
Why, d’you want to hurt yourself?
Die, for something else?
Don’t let your conscience get in the way

Obey
We hope you have a lovely day
Obey
You don’t want us to come out and play
Away, now now
There’s nothing to see here
It’s under control
We’re only gambling with your soul
Obey
Whatever you do, just don’t wake up and smell the corruption
Dom
Another day another systematic nightmare
Commemorate a wonderful life
Bite me first I’ll bite you back
Melodramatic laughter
I stabbed a knife in my eye
Think I’m out my fucking mind
Brainwashed and I’m feeling fine
Destroy yourself it feels too good to fade away
Why, do I want to hurt myself?
Should I die for something else?
I let my conscience get in the way
om
Obey
We hope you have a lovely day
Obey
You don’t want us to come out and play
Away, now now
There’s nothing to see here
It’s under control
We’re only gambling with your soul
Obey
Whatever you do, just don’t wake up and smell the corruption

When your freedom is lethal
Tell me how you’re going to hurt yourself
You call yourselves peaceful
you monsters are people

you fucking monsters are people
Obey
We’re gonna show you how to behave
Obey
It’s nicer when you can’t see the chains
