How Attending My First Gay Wedding Changed Me As A Practicing Mormon

This is an article on HuffPost today... I wish every TBM would read it because it really hammers home how harmful the church is towards those who are gay.

Not only did this woman (sister) get exed after her gay marriage, but she lived a life of a lie as she married and had three kids with a man just to live in the image of the church.

I have a sister in law and her first husband was gay. They had 4 children before he finally left her for a man. She has bad emotional scars from that first marriage even though she has now been happily? Married to my brother for twenty years. I am just not sure she is capable of being happily married because there is so much emotional damage from years of knowing her husband didn’t love her the way she needed to be loved, and then insulting her worth by wanting a man instead. She doesn’t believe that SSA is even real so it was this huge insult to her attractiveness that her husband found an ugly man more attractive than he found her.

Whatever idiot thought that marrying straight would cure the gay was just cruel and if there is a God there is a special place in hell reserved for anybody that caused innocent spouses so much pain. Why not just take the innocent spouse and waterboard them for 20 years or so. Hard enough for the gay person and they at least know what the problem is.

I was among the first in Utah to witness a gay wedding. Because we drove the happy couple to California as soon as it was legal there and before Utah legalized it.

Isn't that pretty much the Mormon leadership throughout time? This idea that you can overcome being gay through sheer will and that you should then get married in the temple and have as many kids as possible, etc.

It's downright evil, and it's an area where they just have no answers now. They're slowly starting to concede it's not a choice (some are, anyway) but then they turn around and say you should live a life of loneliness to be a part of this man-made disaster. It is evil.

What a great article. The writer was not negative, and she showed how when we don't accept people as they are, we demean them and hurt ourselves in the process. We lose out on their wonderful gifts. Imagine if the Church would have existed in the time of Da Vinci or Tchaikovsky and kicked them out. Look at what would be lost.
