Manti Temple Rumor

Post by moksha » Mon Apr 08, 2019 5:01 pm

Temple Rumor: When the three pioneer-era Temples are refurbished in Utah, the dinosaur in the mural at the Manti Temple will be changed to the Utah Velociraptor.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I love a good rumor. I predict new 3 nephite stories will come out of the pioneer-era temple renovations.

I have at least one epic urban legend-type story from my own family about a trip up (or down) one of the spiral staircases in the Manti mormon masonic lodge.

Probably doesn't hold a candle to Dear Penguin's Velociraptor rumor...

The rumor I remember hearing about the Manti Temple was that Moroni dedicated the land for the Manti Temple on his journey from South America to the Hill Cumorah in the early 400's. And that's why the Manti temple architecture is kinda Native-American. One of my missionary companions told me that theory.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13

I have several devout family members who also have a testimony of that rumor. These same family members have done their best to convince the rest of the family of the "Heartland Model" for the Book of Mormon in a way that annoys most of the believers around them.

I've heard that rumor too. What is Native American architecture, exactly? I'm picturing Mesa Verde.

I heard a comment from someone that when SLC closes for refurbishing, it may open as ongoing open house only. Hmmmm.

Also find it interesting that they create a temple shortage before announcing new UT temple. Close SoJo, then shortly after close SLC. Gosh, the temples are so busy now! God knows how much we need more of them because righteousness in our valley!

Looks kind of like a medieval castle to me with its merlons on top for the Manti Legion to shoot their muskets at a swarming horde of Union soldiers. The towers seem sort of baroque - maybe from the baroque Indians of Calcutta.

Moroni dedicating Manti temple hill?

NOT A RUMOR. All of my ancestors from Sampete Valley going back to the founding by early pioneers can confirm that it is a fact. (Their feeeeeeeeeeeelings say so!)

I bet MORONi is pissed that the cancelled the pageant. :geek:

Where would the Q15 have their weekly meetings with mormon Jesus if it's just an "open house"?

Jordan river was just remodeled and re-dedicated in May 2018. Shortage?

Yes, by keeping the larger/older temples rotating through shut downs right before a new UT temple is constructed, it increases how busy the other, smaller temples are or at least feel, even if fewer total people attend. SoJo was closed, putting pressure on SLC, Oquirrh, Draper, even Timp. SLC can run 200ish people through a session. When they close in the near future, it puts that pressure back on all the others. The super busy temples becomes the feeling of "new normal" creating an urgency feeling for people-- "the Tooele temple is so inspired, the Lord is hastening the work! Its hard to get into a session even on a Tuesday night at the others!" But the busy-ness, like so many things in TSCC, is manufactured. The urgency was created. Feelings and perceptions are manipulated.

Ah. I missed the sarcasm in your "shortage" posts.
