Accessing NOM at church?

Post by Mormorrisey » Sun Oct 27, 2019 5:53 pm

Maybe it was just today, but this was the first week I couldn't access NOM on the church's wifi. Have the SCMC finally shut us down?

Good thing I have a good data plan, or church would've sucked extra hard today.

Anybody else have this problem?

I'll check next time I'm there. I decided to go scuba diving instead of church today.

This is particularly interesting to me since I control the website and domain name. I will do some checking and will set up some additional ways to access NOM if needed. This is a cat and mouse game that they will not enjoy playing.

Flamboyant Satan, you know the guy that whispers temptations in your ear and gets you to do impure, unnatural, and unholy things like taking off your religious sanctioned underoos and walk around town naked!

On the topic of accessing NOM at church...

During my final months of actively attending the COJCOLDS, I was an organist and would sit right behind the bishopric for sacrament. During a fast & testimony meeting there were one too many testimonies on Joseph Smith, so I checked out of the meeting and read some NOM for the remainder of the meeting until the final hymn.

I came across some thread where Red Ryder said something pretty hilarious and I literally started to LOL and had to cover it up with some fake coughing, to such an extent that I think 2 of the bishopric members looked back at me to see what was going. At that moment, I was sure I was going to be found out as a non-TBM for my irreverence. But, they didn't seem to care after I covered it up as a cold.

I made sure not to access NOM while sitting on the stand from that point forward so as not to repeat that mishap.

Awesome!

(I don't have to worry about that anymore, but it's nice for those who are still compelled to attend.)

Think of NOM connectivity as new light entering a dreary world. You are doing the Lord's work. :D
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

NOM access used to be my lifeline during bishopric meeting. I don't have time to open NOM during the church block anymore, at least not without risking death glares from DW during sacrament meeting. I'll try to give it a shot one of these days though.

I'm constantly on my phone during HC meetings, browsing NOM in trying to find a better answer to the stupid things I hear. One of these days, when A) I have the stones, B) something truly interesting is happening and C) before I get released (which I'm thinking is coming in the near future), I'm going livestream my experience sitting there. That should be interesting. Hopefully within the next six months! :D

I'd tune in! It feels similar to hanging out with a friend during a boring school field-trip. The content sucks, but you get to cause trouble with your friend so its way better than regular class.

Posting from sacrament meeting through LDSAccess. Darn! I was looking forward to trying out Salty's counter measures.

So this is the message I got today when I tried to get NOM through LDS Access.

Could it be that I'm looking at it too much, and they caught on?

I tried accessing it yesterday and it worked fine. I didn't have time to browse extensively.

Maybe they are updating their server settings and my building hasn't received the update yet?

Probably a local stake IT specialist putting restrictions on the building router.

Somehow I don’t see the mother ship controlling a closed loop network for the whole church but who knows.

I tend to use my own data.

I’m skeptical of using the LDS Tools apps. If they were smart the app would log internet browsing and send data back. Maybe it does, in the name of creating a record to record Stans best tool, genealogy websites.

Report the inaccuracy with the statement that the only reason I still come here and pay titthing is because NOM is available to get me through the two hours. If I can't do that then I might as well leave and donate to worthy causes.
