I miss...

Post by Red Ryder » Thu Dec 10, 2020 8:30 pm

I miss....

Enough. She made me laugh and think about things from the brain perspective.

Stealth Bishop - his wisdom made me feel comforted.

Document - your organ stories and wonderful insight and sims. Your suicide attempt still occupies my brain. Hope your doing well.

Pharmerswife - it’s been forever. I miss your stories of the foreigner and laughs. I dreamed about being neighbors with you in Florida.

Thayne - his level headedness was the real OG. I still wish we had the data. Damn it!

FH451 - wonderful dude. I miss your pontifications.

River Phoenix - I know your friends with alas. Please come and say hi. Hope your doing well.

Oliver - your intelligence was above all else. Glad you could step away and move on but you’re insight has been missed.

Good boy - live well and prosper. You were one of the greatest full of integrity and the pursuit of happiness.

Lithium sunset - your one of the best.

Zack Tacorin - I loved every post.

Fetch - you still pop in every now and then. Glad to see you.

Flower - I still dream about you and your writing tickles my brain.

Happyjack - I read at MD&D and love your conviction to maintain balance. Sorry to see you leave NOM but I understand. You’re one of the good guys. God bless

Anon70 - you’ll always be anonymous in my heart! Miss your insights.

Everyone else I’ve missed - this place isn’t the same without you. I dream about a NOM reunion where we are all hotel’d up in a conference room wearing avatar name tags and wondering around looking for each other. You know, like when we all pass through the veil into the celestial kingdom and look for the buffet!

And to my NOM friends I’ve met in real life.... you dudes are awesome!

Small correction. She went by River Morgan and when I am down South we live just a couple of miles away, so I see her when COVID isn’t a problem and talk sometimes. She is doing good, but her health issues are continuing. I will let her know she is missed.

And yes to all of the people we miss. I guess people outgrow NOM and move on and that is good, but like graduating high school, even though it is

I was PMed recently by Aware if any of you remember them, so we have friends from the past who still lurk now and again.

Doh! Phone auto correct strikes again.

I’m sure I’m missing others not mentioned.

Last night was one of those nostalgic sentimental moments for me this the post.

I’m happy for people who can put Mormonism in the rear view Mirror.

Perhaps we just need to have NOM reunions when we can all get together and not worry about a virus.

Many years ago while researching for a YM lesson, I stumbled on a forum post about pornography. Several people were debating on whether or not porn caused harm in marriage or if the secrecy and shame was the real source of harm. Some posters even mentioned pornography helping to improve their marriage to some degree. Right at the end of the discussion someone simply asked if everyone else just wasn't trying to find ways to justify sin.

I'm not 100% certain, but I tend to think that forum discussion was on the old NOM.

In a way that conversation blew my mind. I had never seen people claim Mormon faith and still have honest, open discussion about a topic that was so taboo in GD.

My FC started in ~January 2016. I'm sure the original NOM was still up then, but I only stumbled on the forum a couple of times. I held off on joining. It wasn't until NOM 1.0 was lost that I started to wish I had joined and become part of that community. It took a while before learned that NOM 2.0 had come to life, but once I found it, I did not hesitate to join.

This forum, and more accurately all of you, Red Ryder, Hagoth, alas, and so many others have been life savers to me. I don't know all those you list that came so long before me, but I'm grateful for them too.

Excellent list, RR ! In addition to those listed above, I also miss Meilingkie and Achilles. They always had something interesting to say. -- Wndr.

I agree with many of the “I miss...” above. I would also add Meilingkie to it. His stories were always interesting to me. I miss his candor and boldness.

NOM kind of scared me. I retreated to StayLDS for a couple of months before I was ready to jump back into NOM.

One thing I appreciate about NOM 2.0 as opposed to NOM 1.0 is that the mods have considered banning me fewer times.

Moksha, I'm glad you're here. I find your sense of humor to be delightful. :)

Speaking of the old days, I remember when a guy named Equality was banned because he got into a huge back-and-forth with a fundamentalist named Bruce who showed up one summer afternoon. It was in August, maybe 2010 or 2011. Equality was upset because the mods did not show up for 2 hours to ban the fundamentalist, and he thought that fundamentalists should be banned immediately. I remember this, because I pointed out that a on weekday summer afternoon when most people are either at work, or on vacation, or outdoors in the pool with their kids, etc., it is really not possible to insist that a moderator appear on the spot. Equality then took issue with that, and I was a persona non grata on his list. Both Equality and the fundamentalist wound up being banned.
That was a lot of drama. We don't have nearly so much drama now. I guess we are all older and wiser. ;) - Wndr.

By the time my "shelf" imploded, StayLDS was basically dead, and that Reddit place was extremely scary, so I spent many a sleepless night reading all the "why I left" stories on NOM 1.0 and found out I wasn't (all that) crazy, and I wasn't alone amongst the scattered pieces of that shelf.

I only got in Thayne's craw bad enough once to get a git of a tongue-lashing. I hope that bottle of whiskey I bought for him helped to ease his pain. I wonder what sort of bribes the current Mods will accept to allow me to keep hanging 'round?

And yeah, I miss that beer-drinking alien too.

Alas reminded me a second time that NOM is back. Since I tried to reregister the first time I've got new eyes so it worked this time.

I've missed this place, especially with so much times on my hands from being self quarantined since March. I've meet many of you IRL on FB since NOM 1.0 shuttered its doors and I've enjoyed that immensely. I will see alas this afternoon for a visit, properly socially distanced, of course. But it will be great to reconnect with other old friends and meet new ones here again!
