Report on Racism at BYU

Post by moksha » Tue Mar 02, 2021 11:27 pm

BYU released a report saying its students of color feel ‘isolated and unsafe’ due to racism on campus. A committee recommends that school leaders take immediate action to address the concerns.

The findings, released Friday, expose widespread and significant concerns about the mistreatment of minority students who attend the private, religious university owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And many students of color end up transferring or dropping out as a result.

There’s no place where students can go to file a complaint about discrimination, even as some experience racist comments daily, the report notes.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Perhaps they could make a few changes:

Change the school dress code to the endowment costume with a cougar blue apron.

Change the name of the school to Celestial Kingdom University.

Teach basic kindness, like Jesus says.

How do you ever truly fix this until you nix the scriptures that these feelings not only originated from, but are justified by?

From the Book of Moses:
Moses 7:8 - There was a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan, that they were despised among all people

Moses 7:22 - They were a mixture of all the seed of Adam save it was the seed of Cain, for the seed of Cain were black, and had not place among them.

From the Book of Abraham:
Abraham 1:24 - When this woman discovered the land it was under water, who afterward settled her sons in it; and thus, from Ham, sprang that race which preserved the curse in the land.

Abraham 1:27 - Now, Pharaoh being of that lineage by which he could not have the right of Priesthood, notwithstanding the Pharaohs would fain claim it from Noah, through Ham, therefore my father was led away by their idolatry.

These beliefs didn't just come out of nowhere, and they are still doctrine today no matter how much the church wants to redefine what skin, black, and curse means.

Forced interracial breeding is the only way to fix this....
Clearly that will not happen, but the entire basis of racism is one group of people believe they are better than another based on their skin color.

A similar example, how do you make students of various socioeconomic levels have similar learning standards in school? School uniforms. Making everyone wear the same clothes reduced elevated status of the rich vs poor at school.
