Elder Bednar telling crowd to "Sit down!"
Have you guys seen this.
https://youtu.be/Mi9cmwi18Ww?si=tzOUopN2hLfMLAnU
Until watching this I didn't even know that there was TBM negative opinions towards Elder Bednar but those opinions are brought up in the video. Anyways I have questions now. Mainly is Elder Bednar really looked on as "The Worst Apostle" from within the church. I ask this cause he is one of the few apostles i know little about cause he was appointed after I stopped going to church and watching conference. Most of the others were there when I was still TBM. Im curious if anyone else has stories about Bednar and whether this is on brand for him. I do find it very interesting that this dissent is coming from within. Thoughts?

The people in that video aren't anywhere close to being orthodox believers and they're sourcing people in the post Mormon community. I have no idea what the average active church member thinks of Bednar. That's one of the hallmarks of church culture, no one says what they really think, there's a lot of pressure to conform.
Over the years I've heard several anecdotes about Bednar getting his garments in a twist over when people stand. There's even a video out there where Susan Bednar starts to stand at the conclusion of a meeting, looks over at David, realizes he's still seated, quickly makes an awkward adjustment to remain seated, David appears to delay standing (out of spite or a flex to test the congregation?), and once he stands Susan and others in his orbit stand up.
It starts at the 49:25 mark in this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NG74CyXa98
It's highly Pharisaical in my opinion. I don't think the practice started with Bednar but from the anecdotes and from that clip, he appears to want to perpetuate the practice.

From my circles I can see a mix of opinion about Susan's husband. I know a lot of TBM's who love him because of his directness. They kind of like having someone in authority.
But a lot also blanche at his arrogance and unloving style.
I hate the guy's style. What a terrible leadership style.

Thanks for the information. I was curious what the pulse was cause I figured given his age he would be prophet in the next 15 years or so. Could be wrong but at age 72 he has 4 apostles ahead of him but two of them are in there 90's and the other two are in there mid 80's. Not much separating those 4 men age wise. So I assumed Bednar would be the prophet of the next generation.hiding in plain sight wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 3:23 pm From my circles I can see a mix of opinion about Susan's husband. On a side note I shared what Bednar did with my wife and she was appalled at his arrogance. I also shared the incident with his wife. And she felt if it was her she would leave his ass for pulling shit like that to embarrass her in public in front of thousands of people. All for the sake of establishing authority. Which is total BS. It is the Church of Jesus Christ. These presiding authority rules are not written in a member manual. There not scripture. There not even in laid out in conference talks. They are in essence a form of idolatry No other man before God. After learning all this about Bednar I am not looking forward to what his "reign" as prophet will look like.

I'll let you in on a little secret. I was at BYUI when Bedanr was there. It was a reign of terror for sure. Bednar would make FHE groups meet together with him and Susan so he could terrorize us on a cozier setting. He liked to talk about "the unwritten order of things." Basically, a bunch of rules not written anywhere but, if you were righteous enough to have the spirit with you, then you would know them.Evil Monkey wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 4:31 am These presiding authority rules are not written in a member manual. For example: If you are giving a talk in SM and a General Authority makes a surprise visit, instead of giving your talk you would share a brief testimony and then leave your time so the General Authority could talk. And the standing/sitting BS was in there too. Totally mental.
He just wanted to make everyone completely stress out over breaking rules that they didn't even know about. He would take questions during FHE but then go off on kids who asked questions he didn't think were important enough. Everyone was on edge but trying to act like they were fine. And honestly that was what life was like with him in charge. You never knew what was going to piss him off. I just wonder who will cause a bigger exodus of members out of the church, Oaks or Bednar.

The absolutely great thing about Bednar's behavior is that someday (and that day WILL come) when he realizes that he made a complete a$$ of himself, it will have been in front of thousands, maybe even millions of people. Not just a few who would eventually forget him as the jerk down the street or at the grocery store, but thousands will remember him as an arrogant, narcissistic self-worshipper who nakedly stroked his own ego in front of everyone.

Maybe people should consider that he's showing his personal sense superiority by treating them exactly like dogs.

He believes that those in his audience have already given up their "agency." Isn't that what the covenant path is all about?
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.
Re: Elder Bednar telling crowd to "Sit down!"
Recently Elder David Bednar was at a swanky soirée in Park City, Utah held at the Chateau Romney. Each important guest had their name and titles announced as they descended the marble staircase. Two places ahead of Elder Bednar some blond-haired dame handed the head butler her card and he announced, “Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons”.
Elder Bednar did not wish to be outdone, so he added a few extra entries to his introduction card. Besides the usual, it read "Fourth of Twelve in the Quorum, Doctorate of organizational behavior from Purdue University, First Primate of Rexburg, Holder of the Royal Melchezidek Priesthood, Future President of the One True Church, and Right hand of God. None shall stand before he stands and none shall sit before he sits". Elder Bednar felt quite pleased that he was able to upstage that Targaryen woman.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
