It does seem to match the single indicator that has been found to be statistically relevant. A boy / man is somewhat more likely to be gay if he has older brothers. It seems to be more significant the more older brothers a son has. Bear in mind, this isn't to say having older brothers causes a boy to be gay, but there is some statistical correlation that seems to rise above the noise.EternityIsNow wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2017 2:24 am Now guess which one of us is gay, and has been from birth? Hint, It's not me. Sadly, my brother was a victim of BYU reparative therapy. But fortunately he got out of the church as a young adult. He is very happy today. And a liberal Christian, happily married to a man he loves.

TL;DR: Lesbians are more likely to have longer ring fingers due to more testosterone in the early stages of brain development. There might be a similar correlation in gay men, but the data is far from conclusive.
Learn to doubt the stories you tell about yourselves and your adversaries.

Looking at my hands, nope. I am about as straight as people come and my ring finger is longer. And my lesbian daughter's ring finger is shorter. Considering she has my heredity for the longer ring finger, she really should have it either the same as mine, or due to being lesbian it should be longer.Reuben wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2017 7:04 pmFor women, there's ring-finger-to-index-finger ratio:Jeffret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2017 10:28 amIt does seem to match the single indicator that has been found to be statistically relevant. Whoops, hit quote instead of edit.
My husband's index finger is longer, indicating he is female????

EIN...I'm just catching up on this thread and this one you shared is heartbreaking! Church policy (and idiocy) hurt so many people! But, according to Oaks, there is no precedence for the church issuing an apology. It seriously frightens me that Oaks is #3 in line after Nelson for presidency. Look out for Darth Oaks to take the lead...EternityIsNow wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2017 2:24 am My family of origin is like a counterexample to those five points. I was the oldest, male, and up to the age of 18 only recall four or five positive interactions with my dad, maybe one or two things we did together. But countless authoritarian rants. My dad was military, often deployed, which strained things with my mom. My parents fought constantly around me, and then divorced. No male bonding for me. No affection. No serious sex talks. I was a typical young teenage boy experimenting and exploring my body. Including running around naked with other boys a few times and having a good time. Pretty innocent.
My younger brother was raised completely differently. My brother was more athletic and did athletic things with my dad. They bonded a lot. After my parents divorced, my dad had a very good marriage, and my brother saw that regularly. That was part of the shared custody arrangement. My brother received more attention, more affection, heard less of the fighting since it was over by the time he was a teenager, Was shy so never was naked with other boys, probably did less exploring of his body than I did. My brother was very obedient, served a mission, Graduated from BYU and dated girls there.
Now guess which one of us is gay, and has been from birth? Hint, It's not me. Sadly, my brother was a victim of BYU reparative therapy. But fortunately he got out of the church as a young adult. He is very happy today. And a liberal Christian, happily married to a man he loves.
Sadly our father believed to his dying day that somehow he had made mistakes parenting my brother, in line with these five points from the booklet. Their relationship became strained and then nonexistent as my father continually tried to follow the church's regularly changing advice about LGBT children.
I'm sorry for the pain your family endured with this. I'm happy your brother is doing good and is happy himself. I have close gay friends, and I know from my interaction with them they didn't choose it, especially with the horrific pain endured (one is an ex-LDS bishop. He has some stories to tell!)

I saw the newspaper post a few days ago about the MormonLeaks article hitting the press. I wonder what the spin-doctors are doing about this. I wonder, seriously, if efforts will be made to take MormonLeaks down.
I mean, after all, openness and honesty are certainly not things the Church of Jesus Christ would engage in,...right?

The MormonLeaks severs are located in Switzerland. This is much more expensive web hosting with the understanding that the Swiss data center will dismissively laugh at any American corporation angrily demanding that certain content be removed. The LDS church has very feeble leverage in this instance. Their best weapon was ignoring this information, but that's increasingly difficult when major press outlets are asking uncomfortable questions about material claims.Rob4Hope wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2017 9:01 pm I saw the newspaper post a few days ago about the MormonLeaks article hitting the press. This is, yet again, a pebble (bolder?) that had broken loose and is beginning to gather speed and volume as it courses down the mountainside....Corsair wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2017 9:19 amThe MormonLeaks severs are located in Switzerland.
