Counselors in the FP do not have to be apostles. How would it be if Nelson selected two nobodies from neither top quorums?

Nelson, Oaks, Bednar would be awesome. The church would fall into pride and fall apart more quickly. The theme on sabbath day would change to no gays among us. It would be like the emperor, Darth Vader, and Grand Mal Tarkin trifecta. Hasten the work!

 I thought about making a meme with a photo of each of those Star Wars dudes, saying Pay! Pray! Obey! But instead I decided to type up a long sentence explaining that I'm too lazy...

Maybe this is why they always have a doctor among the High Sheriffs. When a potential loose canon makes it to the throne he might not be aware that he is receiving a "calming agent" in his sacrament water.

Ooh, pick me! pick me! I've got notes for some General Conference talks that would be doozies.

Really, folks, they must know that Uchtdorf is the sweetheart of the members. In a way, I hope they do give him and his positive-golden-rule-Jesusy talk the boot because he is out of line with their underlying message, but I think they understand the necessity of having that kind of Potemkin village storefront to keep people's minds off what's behind the curtain. It mirrors the old stand-by response: "of COURSE we're true Christians, we've got Jesus' name right there in our trademark."

True. I wonder though. If Nelson called two people from outside the Q12 would they even have to fill the vacancies in the Q12? If people outside the Q12 were called into the FP there would already be 12 apostles without calling anyone up.

Maybe they'll just go completely bat-krap krazy and put Bednar in as CEO just to "Hasten the work".

Though, that would actually require Nelson to set aside his ego, and... Well I'm pretty sure that won't happen. Aunt Wendy would never allow that even if he wanted it. Oh, and the other old, rich , white guys who are waiting in line to become CEO before Bednar would also have to step aside.

Not.

Going.

To.

Happen.

If one of the FP spots were filled by a HP, then no new Q12 member would be called.
Won't happen though. New Q12: Tad or Attorney Whitney.
RMN does have a few months to fine a non-white person though.

After that talk on the BoM by Tad.

Ugh. Yeah, it will probably be him.

So Oaks is in and Uchtdorf gets told to sit down! I guess he needed a little lesson in how to eat humble pie, eh?

Nelson must have perceived Uchtdorf as not toeing the line quite as closely as he should. So much for being Mr. Nice guy.

I wonder if Bednar felt a little disappointed.....I certainly hope so.

I wonder if they're going to make Uchtdorf go on a humility tour where he has to talk about his demotion in every talk.

And express his love and support for the new First Presidency ;)

I'd imagine we will be hearing talks on how every calling is equal, one not more important than another. It's how you serve not where you serve.

Yada, Yada, Yada....

If the nursery leader is as important as an Apostle, are we supposed to listen and obey when they speak too....or stand when they enter the room?

Oh wow!.

WELL...there you go. Oaks. I just read the announcement.

There is a move toward orthodoxy and control. I can't read this any other way.

Okay...I'm going to pretend that Uchtdorf uses this humility tour to build a rebel resistance comprised of: liberals, progressives, feminists, LGBT+ and of course NOMs, within the church. As the clusterf@#% new FP wreaks havoc on the church, the resistance grows. The rebels use tapir tie pins, rainbow headbands and quotes from Elder Poleman's gc talk as code to identify each other. One day, Uchtdorf will lead his army to overthrow the Q15 and hardcore TBMs. This is goona be awesome you guys!!!

Hahaha, I love it!

Maybe he will channel his inner Captain Moroni and rip off his coat and write, "In memory of love, and respect, and common decency!"

It’s probably that Nelson is not going to be around long and they wanted to get Oaks warmed up.

Can I just state the obvious for a second?

We all know the sustaining vote is merely a formality, but at least the illusion is there.

Now church leaders have chosen and set apart the president of the LDS Church with absolutely no input from the members.

And they won't be able to give their (sustaining) vote for almost three months.

The charade that the members have any input into the selection of church leaders is officially over.

I thought about this earlier but couldn't remember if the protocol had changed. In most cases in the church the sustaining "vote" is asked for before the individual is set apart.
Has this current situation been a departure from the norm? Did they not want to wait until April for a FP?

But for all intents and purposes, you're absolutely right. The deed is done. No input necessary from the peons.
