Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. Good thing, or Ted Bundy might have been a Mormon.

Exactly. He earned their trust to the point where they did things they normally would not have done. No inkling that maybe they should listen to a gut feeling or an uncomfortable feeling over this "good man". He was an excellent con artist, and imo very evil. He would stop at nothing to twist and manipulate things to get what he wanted.

Their crime was that they trusted too much - but that's what is taught. As far as leaders go, in fact, it is hammered in under threat of hell.

I think they have a lot of guts to be part of a documentary and explain how stupid they had been. If that can save someone else from a similar nightmare, then them opening up is worth it.
