I may have gotten that wrong in my review of the transcript.

When he says he was in Argentina watching a girl on a swing, I thought he was a missionary there.

But if he was the mission president at the time, that is starting to sound light-years creepier!

Hmmm.....I was thinking the girl on the swing incident occurred when he was about 6 years of age.

Really wish this woman had had her wits about her a little better. Things mush together way too much when he's trying to describe his problem.
I think you are right that the girl on the swing was when he was young. He did server as both a missionary and later as a mission president in Argentina.

I think we need to cut this woman a little slack considering what she has been through. I can't even imagine what it would be like to directly confront your abuser after letting things fester for over 30 years. His age and memory problems added to the lack of clarity.

About two-thirds of the way through, just before the interviewer says, " Well okay. I hope you have a good criminal attorney. Cause you're gonna need
one," Bishop says, "Well. Here I am recording it."

Does that mean he was aware that she was recording? Or was he also recording? Or did he mean something else?

I don't mean to sound derogatory. It's just some frustration coming through that she's getting in her own way of accomplishing her objective and I really want her to succeed.

But as you say, with everything she's been through, she's probably lucky to be as healthy as she is and she deserves great credit for that.

Here is what I would like to know.

The Church in its official statement says they first heard the tape of this interview two months ago in January of 2018.

(Note they try to make the time a matter of "weeks" rather than "months.")

Apparently the content of the allegations caused the Church sufficient concern to pull all of Joseph Bishop's books from Deseret Book Stores, and now BYU Book Store.

But if it was merely the content of the taped interview that caused the Church such concern, why did the Church not pull the books in January of 2018?

Why did the Church wait until the taped interview went public to pull Joseph Bishop's books?
The matter resurfaced in 2016 when the same individual contacted a stake president in Pueblo, Colorado, and then again a few weeks ago in January 2018, when the Church was contacted by a lawyer representing her. He provided a copy of a recording that she had made of a conversation between her and 85-year-old Joseph Bishop in December 2017.

Do you wonder if they were waiting to see if they could do a monetary, non-disclosure agreement here??

I mean I do know they occasionally make payoffs if that's the quickest and most secure way to accomplish their goal and avoid a crapstorm.

Anyone else wonder why the Pleasant Grove police were notified when the alleged incident happened at the Provo MTC?

Was it the death threat they were responding to or the rape allegations?

Seems the church should have reported to the Provo police.

I believe the PG PD was involved regarding the rape allegations and death threats when she first notified the authorities. I'm assuming either the woman and Mr Bishop (or both) were residents of Pleasant Grove. Had something every become of the case, then Provo PD would probably be involved.

The way I understand it is that when she contacted the church in 2010 to find out if anything had ever been done about Joseph Bishop, they refused to give her any information. She threatened to kill him and that is when the church notified the police.

The police showed up to question her about the death threats. That is when she reported his behavior in the MTC from 16 years prior (in 1984). She said on the tape that she recently checked with the PGPD and that here report is still on file there.

I am not sure the timing of her report of Bishop's behavior with Elder Asay, but it was sometime in that 16 year period.

I don't think she ever mentioned reporting anything to the police before the 2010.

Also, they nixed Hamula last year for infidelity.

Wait. Did this officially come out? Last I heard no reason had been given?

Looks like an interview from 1980 has surfaced showing some potential warning signs Bishop was a creep when president of Weber State College.

The existence of a basement office with a bed has been asserted by an anonymous former church employee:

http://kutv.com/news/local/former-emplo ... bed-and-tv

President Newsroom confirms the office, but denies that there was a bed. I wonder how he knows that.

A question for President Newsroom: Why in the hell would an MTC president need to retire to a second office in a dank and smelly basement in order to relax? What was wrong with his regular office? Why couldn't he repurpose a nearby classroom instead?

This is crazy. Utterly bizarre, like watching SVU.

John Dehlin has interviewed another person accusing a different MP of sexual abuse prior to being promoted up through the hierarchy.

Is this the big change that was rumored?

Some of the local New Zealand LDS leaders involved in the construction of the new church complex there claimed that he was overcharging all of the contractors and pocketing the difference.

Something like that.

Mormon church leaders don't really instigate changes from their own initiative. They don't act - they react. Things come up and they have changes pressured upon them. Or sometimes they just finally get around to implementing a suggestion that has been around for a long time.

Especially in more recent years they just respond to or try to ignore stuff that comes up. When it gets loud enough. And a lot of negative stuff keeps coming up.

In the all of this sexual harassment that is coming to light it reinforces my belief that we must teach our daughters and granddaughter to never put up with any conduct that attempts to make them compromise themselves. Walk out, punch them in the nose but do not tolerate it for a second. Be strong and don't be afraid to report the SOB. It is not going to stop until the consequences meet the crime.

Be careful not to blame the victim.

And help them avoid that situation by not allowing them be to ever be alone with another male adult church leader! With all the indoctrination our kids get in the church to trust these priesthood leaders and their magical inspired authority, it puts kids in a difficult quandary when it comes to these probing interview/worthiness situations. I say just don't put them into those situations in the first place! I'm planning on marching this Friday to deliver that petition to the COB.
