In the opening scene, music is playing, birds are singing, and blissful beauty is in the air.

A group of pre-earth people are gathered around a father figure.
The father figure decides to create a new planet, send his children down to test them, before letting them return to live again with him and his numerous wives.
Two sons offer up their best ideas.
One is chosen.
The other gets mad, throws a tantrum and is expelled.
He takes people away off to follow him.
Some time later, the father figure impregnates his daughter on another planet.
This women is married to a carpenter.
The carpenter has to pay his taxes. He takes his pregnant wife on a road trip.
They travel cross country on a donkey.
Who takes a pregnant woman for a ride on a donkey?
The carpenter has no reservation. The motel has no vacancy.
They find a spot behind the motel to sleep and give it a one star review on Bethle-Yelp.
The Chosen One is born.
He thinks he's the son of God.
Some people believe him. Some don't.
He gets hung on a cross, killed by the dont's, then buried in a tomb.
He visits the inhabitants in America for three days.
He rises from the dead, a resurrection of sorts, first witnessed by a women.
1800 and some odd years later, a curious 14 year old boy reads a bible.
He wants to go to church but doesn't know which one to attend.
Decides he's going to pray and walks out to the woods behind his house in New York.
God appears to him. Then God and Jesus. Other accounts differ. Who really knows?
He finds a book buried by an ancient survivalist with a record keeping hobby.
The book is made of gold.
The boy puts his head in a hat with a seer stone. Words appear.
He translates the book, starts a church, and secretly marries other women.
The towns people lock him up, chase him out of town, and eventually kill him.
A tyrant steps in to lead the people knowing someday universities will bear his name.
His followers pull wagons west, start a new town, and build a large building.
Special underwear is given out in these buildings. A sacred ritual too weird to tell.
Marriages are performed in this building. A man and a woman get married there.
They have a child.
They raise this child to believe in the Father Figure, the Chosen One, and the hat translator.
He grows up, gets married in a similar building and has a few children of his own.
He wakes up one day, looks at the beliefs that don't make sense.
Stops believing, takes off the special underwear, and stops paying his monthly dues.
His family thinks he is misguided and deceived by the tantrum throwing expelled son.
He finds a support group on the internet who understands exactly how he feels.
Eight or nine dudes secretly meet for lunch on a regular basis.
Group text messages randomly start and stop at random times of the day.
His wife says, "who is texting you?"

I'm fairly sure I could pen the sequel.

A few questions...
What will be the title of the film?
I think it needs more magic and superstition...

I think it would be a cult classic. Relentlessly weird, like Solarbabies.

Did you see the recent Jennifer Lawrence movie, Mother?

It has a similar theme to some of this.

I have seen it. Fell asleep before the end and just had to make up my own ending. Wife didn't like it my version so we went with hers. No logical way it actually works out that way but somehow love keeps it all together in the end.
