I'm not sure where this goes, but I decided it fits on this forum (considering the overall topic of it).
This was on Reddit this morning & I am still laughing:

Psych referral?
I honestly don't know what I would do if someone said that to me. There'd probably be a large debate within me about whether I should laugh loudly or I be worried in case the person decided to take the exocism to the next level. Even when I was a believer, I would have thought that was off-kilter.

This bishop has embraced a magical worldview and the LDS church is one place he can indulge in it without horrifying his fellow parishioners. If I were a slightly worse person than I am now, I would build a small pulse wave generator out of a Raspberry Pi and play low frequency bass notes in meetings with him. This would generate an artificial feeling of dread and he could "cast it out". If this subterfuge was ever discovered, he is likely to misinterpret causality and conclude that low frequency bass notes somehow invite evil spirits into the room. Therefore, a new round of the youth getting rid of evil music should be initiated!
I'm probably overthinking this. But I'm not overthinking it more than this bishop.

Oh Wow. I cannot even imagine....
I loved when the Bishop said that "he was glad he expelled the demons in the office and how nice it felt afterwards
as if he had sprayed some nice smelling tropical paradise air freshener or polished his desk with Pledge."

I liked that one, too - also has some covenant semantics to it - sounds more churchified than if he mentioned Glade.

Oh .........My ...........Heck!

On my mission I knew missionaries like the bishop in the story, but didn't think they would grow into bishops.

Yeah, I dated an RM once, who told me of a hyped up 'exorcism' case while on his mission. Basically, somebody wanted a blessing because he was feeling bad. During the blessing, a breeze from an open window blew a door shut. One of the missionaries later recounted this in a F&T meeting, saying they had exorcised evil spirits who were making this person feel bad. The missionary said that paranormal events began occurring, like doors slamming shut. My friend thought it was all pretty silly.

This reminds me of an experience I read about years ago from a poster named Craig Paxton. (He used to post on NOM and other sites in the DAMU). Anyway, as I recall, awhile after Craig went through his loss of faith, his bishop called him in for an interview to see if he had changed his mind about the truth claims of the church. When he went in to see the bishop he said something like "I am so sure that the church is false and the the priesthood is BS that I want you to raise your right arm to the square and make me mute!" The way he wrote the experience was hilarious!
If he still haunts the DAMU, I wish he'd post that story again. It was awesome.

Well, if you do the math, for each member of the church alive today there are thousands evil spirits that were cast out of heaven, plus the spirits of evil people who died. Since we're the people who they're always working overtime on to deceive we each have a huge cloud of evil spirits swirling around us all the time.
