Video Of Joseph Bishop's Accuser and Attorneys - Press Conference

For those interested in watching the press conference that took place yesterday, here's the link:
https://youtu.be/eH7erEoNEc8
I cannot tell you how impressed I am with this courageous woman (and her attorneys are even likable too). There's a lot more information given here in this conference too, Sam Young is there and others as well.
I highly recommend taking the time to listen to it.
The church cannot possibly want this case to go to trial and allow the details to be in the news for months.

I watched it last night and was impressed by her demeanor. It would seem she should be angry and emotional but she wasn't during the press conference.
I've read so many comments on Facebook by members who defend the church and victim blame without even listening to the leaked interview or this press conference.
I hope she can get closure and healing from this lifetime of abuse by the church. The dossier was incredibly abusive and her attorney did note that's part of the strategy in a lot of legal cases.
I hope she can settle but at the same time I'd like to see the evidence of the church cover up.

This makes me grateful (once again) that I am not on Facebook. I can't understand how members can defend what allegedly took place here. There are far too many who have made statements about this man's behavior over the years of sexual abuse, plus his own words confessing what he did, to be taking part in any shaming of Mckenna Denson.

McKenna is amazing!! It's hard to see the TBMs attack her though.
I really like what Lindsay Hansen Park said about McKeena's attackers:
Today I am filled with righteous anger that fellow Mormons who point out an issue like abuse in their own church are considered "anti-Mormon" or critics. Do you realize how absolutely illogical and backward that is?
People that actually want to bring health to their own communities are marginalized. This shows me many are more concerned with painting our church as shiny and clean instead of working hard to make it clean. When something is sick, you nurture it to health. You don't contribute to the disease.
I just witnessed fellow Latter-day Saints victim blaming and laugh at a survivor of sexual assault. Shame on you. Shame on the culture of denial that enables abuse. The sins are on your heads. You covenant to do the hard work to build up The Kingdom, not sweep things under the rug. And you are letting "critics" do the work you promised you would do yourselves.

This might be a thread-jack, but...
Church Is True Blog wrote:but he’s a half-confessor, and there is a difference between confessing more normal type infidelity, which it seemed like he had done, vs. confessing sexual predator behavior.
The quote is referring to Mr. Bishop. Can someone explain to me what "
normal type infidelity" is? Especially related to mormonism?

What a great quote from Lindsay, and I quite agree, shame on the attacks from LDS apologists on anything to do with sexual assault and the victims of ecclesiastical abuse. And yes, I applaud McKenna's bravery in doing this presser, and how composed she was. I also hope this at least gets to trial, but her demeanour suggests that ol' Kirton/McConkie have to be filling their collective Depends, and they must have their auto-pen ready to sign a HUGE cheque.

That's a good question, but I imagine he means the "normal" infidelity of cheating on your spouse (?)

I pinged Mr. ChurchIsTrue over on Reddit, so hopefully he'll answer.
I'm kind of wondering when infidelity became "normal" in mormonism? And again... How does a serial, "half-confessor" of "normal infidelity" climb the ranks in mormonism like Mr. Bishop did?

I do not believe this nonsense about the Church should have discerned he was a sexual predator and not called him to positions. I don’t think discernment, or any spiritual gift, is an ability to tell the future (or past) with certainty and act on it. This is one of those fundamentalistic views that need to be stamped out.
I have a lot of trouble with this particular statement. We've been reminded time and again by leaders that the GA call people through revelation. Now I'm supposed to buy into the apologist narrative of "that's not how it works." Is it a fundamentalist view if its being taught over the pulpit? Is it fundamentalist and outside the mainstream when its in Handbook 1?

This s a case f him wanting revelation when it turns out well, and revelation doesn't work that way when it turns out badly. Either our leaders are called by inspiration or they are not. He cannot have it both ways and RMN is a prophet of God called by revelation, but JB was just a man lying to his ladders and we can't expect leaders to see through the lies because revelation does not work that way. He just doesn't get to have his cake and eat it too.

Well, I don't feel like asking permission to re-post, so I'll paraphrase: According to ChurchIsTrue "normal type infidelity" is consensual sexual relations outside the bonds of marriage, as opposed to predatory behavior. Similar to what you already mentioned Allie.
Weird wording if you ask me. Reminds me of "non-consensual immorality".

I’ve been watching Facebook ready to respond to any members tho tried to defend the Church on this one - and I guess it goes to show how effectively I have blocked those kinds of people from my social media, because I haven’t seen anything.

+1
When they want to take my 13 year old son or daughter into a room alone and ask about how they touch their ding-a-ling or their Hoo-Haw then they invoke the "inspiration" crap to say there is no problem with it, but then when one of these guys goes off the rails then all of a sudden "that's not how it works"

WTF!? There is some real logical fails with these apologist arguments. Its infuriating, like talking to a wall.

Let's get back to the substance of what has happened. I hope everyone will take the time to watch the entire presentation. Ms. McKenna comes off as highly credible and reasonable.
From the sound of it, Pres. Bishop used confidential information provided to him as mission president to target these women. He starts with a small group of sisters that he knows have been abused in the past and which he knows will be more susceptible to his predation. He weeds that group down to a lucky candidate which he lures to his rape room with promises of them getting a first hand look at his spiritual gifts.
This is NOT a one-off incident. President Creepo had a very specific MO for getting the most vulnerable of his charges into situations where he could abuse them all over again. There are other victims here. This guy is a serial rapist.
To LDS Church Leadership:
Stop Protecting Sexual Predators!!!!
