Popping in

Hey guys and gals,

I just popped in to take a look at the church in Reno thread. I just thought I would post and say hello, even though I didn't make it very long before logging in again.

Taking a step back has been great. It has been nice to focus on other things, it makes it easier to not obsess over mormonism to much. My wife has appreciated that I think. Discussions have gotten easier, I think probably because they are more fueled by my emotions and less by what I happened to see on the internet boards that day.
Then Joseph freaking bishop happened. That has really gotten me angry in a way I haven't been before. I have not thought about resigning much, but when that story broke it has really made me want to scream on whatever platform I can find and resign. Dmower supports me in whatever, so maybe someday.

I have been doing alot of reading about the evolution of god through history. Its been fascinating. I have recently been reading "a history of god: the 4000 year old quest of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam." I can't recommend it enough. Good stuff.

Anyway, life is good, and I am glad the lights are still on over here. If anyone lives around Reno or Carson city, let me know. I would love to meet up someday. The friendships I have made here on the board have been meaningful and priceless. The irl phoenix group has been a lifesaver.

If you're interested in how the idea of god has changed over time, you should check out Robert Wright's book The Evolution of God. I read it a few months ago and highly recommend it.
