It sounds like Tyler Robinson (who shot Charlie Kirk) was raised Mormon - church leader and his own father helped bring him in -

https://nypost.com/2025/09/12/us-news/t ... he-church/
Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin Tyler Robinson was raised a devout Mormon — yet fired his fatal shot at Kirk just moments after the conservative influencer had glowingly praised the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“I love how Mormons send missionaries around the world, I love how polite they are. … Half my team is Mormon,” Kirk, 31, said to huge cheers from the crowd at Utah Valley University moments before he was allegedly killed by the 22-year-old trade-school student.

“Mormons are great people. Let me just say, I’m an evangelical Christian (now), but I’m not one of those guys that hates on Mormons,” Kirk said.
Now we have another Mormon struggling with a few things.... Mormon man with assault rifle setting fire and killing people.

For those of us who survived leaving without ending up on the news, what is our responsibility to help others who are making the transition?

For a time, I wanted to completely distance myself from all the was Mormon, even including other ex-members, I was just so tired of it... Now I am feeling I should try and reach out to help others who are also leaving. I am just so tired of it all... Also, part of leaving for me was becoming my own authority figure, not relying on anyone else - realizing there was no one to guide, I had to figure it out on my own... Helping others sometimes can just enable them to keep hanging on to someone else telling them what to do. Codependent→independent→ to healthy relationships. I think a time alone, solo, is needed for a healthy transition... but there does need to be some kind of support for those who leave/struggle.

This is a very sad story. Looks like he smashed through a wall right into the chapel and opened fire. I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been!

I hope they don't gloss over the details:

-White male
-Gun owner
-Marine veteran
-Drove a pickup with two large American flags
-Had a Trump sign on his property
-Photos of him wearing a Trump 2020 t-shirt

So which are they going to blame; a radical Leftist? Trans person?

Ward members didn't recognize the shooter.

Early findings suggest he may have struggled with mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and investigators are also examining possible anti-Mormon rhetoric posted online.

His kid had medical issues *church does not help with any permanent disabilities or permanent health issues).

What is the solution to help those who have been deeply hurt by the church so they can truly escape all the mind games?

Ironically, he was a recipient of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Some reports say he lived in Utah for several years, but I still haven't seen any reports that tie him to the LDS church specifically.

The North Carolina shooter is also a decorated Marine Veteran who was obsessed with right-wing conspiracy theories. I think a pattern is emerging, and it's not the one the Administration is pushing.

I have family members less than an hour away, and they are in shock. But a local journalist has a story about how a canvassing city councillor candidate ran into this guy on the campaign trail. I think it's ok to post this here but if it's a problem let me know:

So a dude that thinks Mormons are the antichrist. And has access to assault rifles. Not a good combo.

Pretty sad story, I still sit in meetings and can't even imagine this. Hope the families who were there can heal from this terrible incident.

Assuming this is true, this will really feed into the Mormon persecution complex. They would love this sort of thing to be true. DHO will likely have a field day with that.

But the fact that he appears to be a Trumper evangelical (again, emphasis on appears as we don't know for sure) and the church's moves towards the evangelical mainstream, this will be quite the balancing act.

Despite Trump's protests that this is an attack on Christians, it seems to be (again, emphasis on it seems) a Christian attack on who they think is a non-Christian. Hopefully more information will come out soon.

From article:
had lived in Utah and had a relationship with a woman involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During their conversation, Sanford told him he had his tattoos removed to take part in church ceremonies.
Sounds to me like he may have attended/joined.

If so it sounds... off.

I'm not aware of any policies where someone would need to get a tattoo removed to get baptized or go to the temple. Maybe to be a fulltime missionary as a youth? Certainly not to receive any ordinance. Maybe it depends on the tattoo? Like if it were of something particularly bad.

I can see removing a tattoo to fit in.

I've wondered whether they might now be more tight-fisted now that they are cognizant of wanting to grow the Ensign Peak Investment Fund.

Maybe it was Jesus on a cross. We really hate that kind of CHRISTIAN-Christian stuff.
