A sadder man but wiser...

We read a poem in 9th grade English called the "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and the line "a sadder man but wiser" has kind of stuck with me, even 55 years later. Are there things anyone has learned that made you sadder but wiser?
Looks like I forgot how to spell.
And actually my last ten years have been my happiest in many ways. For example- retirement. ;)

I fixed the thread title for you... I think.

There's the old saying, "Ignorance is bliss." It seems to fit your quote.

I think there's some duality to it though. Wisdom brings sadness in some areas but delivers happiness in other areas. A faith transition brought lament over losing the white half of my black and white views but it brought the richness of the full spectrum of color. The color also includes the white from before if I look for it.
