Re: The changing face of LDS INC under RMN...why the rush?

Adventism (which is in the LDS Church DNA) automatically creates urgency. Change in the Church is often spoken of as a "Sign" that the advent of Jesus is near. A fact that we need to face is that Adventism has been around since New Testament times, and even before. Jesus taught adventism, but also w...

Re: Infantilization of the mind

Its completely anecdotal, but I'd love to hear some thoughts. Ready.... go! I have noticed this too. It's one of the reasons I dislike listening to general conference. It feels so condescending. I have noticed that you go from having your parents run your life, to having the church run your life. N...

Re: How Attending My First Gay Wedding Changed Me As A Practicing Mormon

What a great article. The writer was not negative, and she showed how when we don't accept people as they are, we demean them and hurt ourselves in the process. We lose out on their wonderful gifts. Imagine if the Church would have existed in the time of Da Vinci or Tchaikovsky and kicked them out. ...

Great report. I’m glad you saw no need to be snarky, you just gave sound, rational reasons for not buying their product.

The case of the diminished, qualified prophecy

On Feb. 14,1835, during the meeting for calling the first 19th century apostles, Joseph told his audience: "that those who went to Zion with a determination to lay down their lives if necessary, should be ordained to the ministry, and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming o...

Re: Apostasy through the ages.

Any reference to human sacrifice or other evil is evidence that they had the truth but fell into apostasy. Was the ball court part of the apostasy too? ;) That was obviously that was a large part of many of those civilizations, yet for some reason not mentioned in their "holy book?" :? Visited Tulu...

I agree with blazerb. Some of the questions seem leading to me. A shorter quiz with less leading questions might broaden some perspectives. This particular quiz might turn TBM’s off.

Re: Looks like I'll be doing my "Home Study" after all...

That looks interesting. My wife and I have read "The First Five People You Meet in Heaven." We also have read some David McCollough history. I think we have to work to find common ground. All marriages will have to do this as they go along. My wife has amazing strengths where I am weak. The journey ...

Re: Would you let your kids be chipped?

Heck no, although I think when many in the church try to avoid critics, that is tantamount to what they are trying to do. The Church wants to claim agency, but they don't want a free market-place of ideas. They want to control that market-place.

Re: Apostasy through the ages.

wtFluff, That could been said of Mormonism, and also Inerrant-Bible Christianity. I do believe an argument could be made that Primitive Christianity might not be 100% the way the bible portrays it. Let's say the New Testament got from 60% to 95% of it's story right. One could still maintain that the...

2. Wouldn't traces of this Church influence be found more in archaeological discoveries throughout the world? What sort of archaeological evidence would you expect to prove "100% Mormon Population" for short time periods? Evidence of Monotheism, baptism, a single language worldwide for at least a f...

Did he nix "L.D.S?" I've been trying to use it more since the directive, in order to show respect. Am I still an offender for a word? (Isaiah 29:21)

Apostasy through the ages.

If I understand the LDS worldview correctly, there have been several times in human history when Church membership was 100%, or close to it, anyway. The first years of Adam and Eve's family, the first few years after the flood, not to mention localized situations like the Americas in 34-100 A.D. I h...

For people who have not done it yet, the quiz is 100 questions long, so plan on taking a while to go through it. Thanks for the heads up. I did it anyway- got a 94. Try adding this question. Question #101. A NOM could be: A. A temple recommend holder. B. A Church leader, such as a bishop or auxilia...
