I would like to listen to this, but I don't do facebook. (I'm a millenial) will it be posted on regular Mormon Stories?

Re: New message about choosing to believe

The video is an example, almost a definition, of sophistry. Whatever happened to humbly seeking truth, and following where it leads? For example, simply answering questions such as: "Was God or men the source of the priesthood ban?" instead of carefully balancing the essay "Race and the Priesthood" ...

Re: Loyal Christian's hanging onto mormonism

That would reasonably describe me. I am hanging onto Mormonism simply for family and friends. This is not something that would be a welcome discussion in your average ward. The LDS church simply cannot and does not let their members simply be "Christian". It seems that the LDS church operates by be...

The Missouri War Papers

I found this site which should be interesting and helpful to those researching the Mormon War in Missouri. www.sos.mo.gov Well, the information is in there somewhere. I can't seem to get to it except by googling Mormon Missouri War. It contains both Mormon and Gentile accounts of that conflict.

Re: Patrick Mason and the collapse of apologetics

This direction in apologetics seems to be a way of losing the argument but still claiming you won. Even though all of the damning criticisms are true it's still valid scripture. I saw this on Colbert and I thought it applied: https://youtu.be/CI1tVPKgUCA?t=26 Yup, it sure does apply!  :l...

Re: Bob McCue: The Church is like a Narcotic

Bob McCue was pretty deep, but I appreciated his warning that telling your spouse about your broken shelf on your anniversary is not a good idea. Hearing his name makes me feel old in NOM years. ;) It will be ten years in March, when my shelf broke.Keeping a journal was good for something. :l...

Re: The Book of Mormon: Written for Who's Day?

One message from the BOM is that prophets are to confront atheists and/or Universalists and strike them deaf and/or dumb. (Examples: Google Sherem, Korihor, and Nehor.) If it says it in the BOM it must be for our time, and if it says it 3 times it must be important. This has been ignored by latter d...

Re: Book Review "This is My Doctrine" Part 4

Thanks for the essay, and the Foghorn Leghorn references. He was one of my favorite cartoon characters. I've wondered if Joseph batted 50% with his revelations? I once read an article that psychic Jeanne Dixon got about 50% of her predictions right. Of course, Joseph figured out how to qualify...

Re: Another big Joseph Smith blow out?

Anyone who reads the Old Testament carefully has read accounts, of prophets that lie, kill, and just act goofy. Fortunately for Mormon prophets, most people don't read the O.T. that carefully. Hence they think a prophet, any prophet, is some kind of demigod.

Yes she knows. I wish she would read it or ask me more about it than she does, but we occasionally discuss religion, and I appreciate that.

Re: More about me because someone asked me to share

Thanks Kerry, that was fascinating. The analogy I use for my experience with apologetics is that I felt like I was following a path through a forest that I thought was infinitely deep, but then one day I was surprised to realize that I unexpectedly emerged on the other side. And that's where the jo...

I want to resurrect this thread because I've been listening to "Nancy Rigdon and the Happiness Letter" by Bill Reel, Jonathan Streeter, and Chris Smith, on "Mormon discussions. I wouldn’t want to trade places with Warren or Russell. I think we all practice some self deception, but the level that Jeffs and Nelson have to sustain is very sad.

Re: NOMference Fall 2019 Sunday Afternoon

5+ for quoting Jesus’s “cross” reference. I don’t remember hearing the cross mentioned much in general conference.
5- for referring to a bogus, retrospective BOM prophesy and mocking Nephites.
