Re: Paradox or Problem

I have wondered if the LDS Church could be a mechanism for selective breeding. I'm not sure if it would be for the better or the worse. The article about breeding domesticated foxes is fascinating and definitely contains seeds for thought.

Re: Yes Men?

Great topic. I've never been on a high council so I don't have much to add. I don't believe much in D&C 9's advice to Oliver Cowdery, but if did I would add that most people don't study enough to sincerely pray for an answer, and I include myself in that judgement. Most of us study with a very narro...

Good for you. I'm curious, were you there for the bishop's interview? How did it go?

Re: How would Joseph have known about the Comoros Islands?

I think the "NHM curiosity" and the "Moroni/Comoros curiosity" are roughly equivalent. I am reminded of the Lincoln/Kennedy curiosity that still makes the rounds. You know: Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln and vice versa, etc. etc. I think the absence of identifying markers for Nephite and Jare...

Re: Warren vs Gandhi

“Do as I say, not as I do” is hypocrisy 99% of the time. It doesn’t mean that Gandhi wasn’t a great man. It means he was a hypocrite as well. See Martin Luther King for another example. Warren Jeff’s? No greatness. Just hypocrisy; but then look at who his models were.

Wow. There IS always something new in Church history. I wish there was a Readers Digest version. 100 minutes on this is a little too much for me. I'm surprised there are 5,000 views.

Re: Where did this come from?

The last few months of my mission (California Arcadia 1977) we were taught a pilot program where people were baptized the the first day they met with the missionaries. We were instructed to teach at the Stake Center, and have the baptismal font ready. The last Sat. night of my mission we baptized a ...

Re: Went to Church

I attended Sacrament meeting with my wife, and then slipped down the St. Judas church in Draper. Honestly, there were uplifting parts in both services. The first Sac. Mtg. talk was an assigned Conference talk rehash :( , but the second talk took the old pop song "He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, and ...

Re: Lost 16 Pages

Consig makes the important point that those 16 pages, which definitely were written on, might contain an account that predates the "1832" History. To me this seems more likely, because of the remaining letters copied into the book date from 1829-1835. Why would a book be turned over before it was fi...

Re: The spirit

I enjoyed that Tedtalk, Angel. I think the Church wants us to believe spirituality and religion are the same thing; when we feel an “elevated feeling” or a “higher power” it means “the Church is true.” My experience is there are exceptions to this- a lot of exceptions.

Re: Near Death

NDE’s, and especially incidents of out of body travel could be used as evidence for something. I like to think that there is something to them. My TBM wife and agnostic son couldn’t care less, so it’s good to see some discussion about them. Thanks for the thread. 🤗🤔

Re: Lively discussion for NBI: Fighting for Jesus; where do we cross the line?

Let's define the mormon church by what it claims to be: God's kingdom on earth, led by prophets who are guided directly by God himself. The only path to the celestial kingdom. The only place you can find ALL good. I expect(ed) that organization to be moral and transparent and to help people. Why? W...

Re: New blog post- "But My Experience Was So Good!"

This is a wonderful piece. I think of Boy Scouts. Some kids seemed to thrive in it, and for others like me, it was OK. I felt bad for the two brothers in my Explorers group whose dad insisted that they couldn’t get their drivers licence until they were Eagles. They were great kids and it all worked ...

Re: My 8 year olds faith crisis

My daughter was just baptized this past Saturday. In therapy today (she has a lot of anxiety, so we go for that) she told her therapist she has been praying to feel the spirit, and she hasn’t felt it yet. She said “god hasn’t answered any prayers.” I would arrogantly try to give her two pieces of a...
