Re: Bill Reel--Disciplinary Court is Imminent

I'm no expert, but if Bill types up a defense and asks the Church court to sign they can: A) refuse to sign and ex Bill anyway. Bill can then publish his defense and say the court refused to listen, or B) the court can read and sign the paper, ex Bill or not, and Bill can say they read my defense an...

Re: Bill Reel--Disciplinary Court is Imminent

The non-disclosure thing is really lame. Did Joan of Arc have to sign a non-disclosure statement? Not that Bill would be tortured like Joan of Arc, but it just seems like the move of a bully- sucker punch me while some one else is holding me. But bullies are known for this kind of thing. That alone ...

Dang it, I spaced the lunch. It slipped my mind. If I can use age as an excuse I will (I’m a month shy of 63. Anyway, sorry. I hope the lunch was fun.

Re: Elias and Elijah identity problem

I'm reminded that D&C 107:2-4 suggests that God wants us to avoid saying holy names too often. "Why the first is called the Melchizedek Priesthood is because Melchizedek was such a great high priest. Before his day it was called the Holy Priesthood after the order of the Son of God. But out of respe...

Re: Pedogamy

Fascinating. I noticed Brian Hales weighed in with his own comments. The Church was definitely a C___ in the 19th century, and it can't seem to shake off that heritage. Oh Zion, shake off your rags of injustice and repent. Why dost thou dimly see the mote in thy neighbors eye and and yet not see the...

Re: Mormon Channel: How to Cope When a Loved One Changes Beliefs

Bill Reel posted the link to this yesterday and I watched it with the same thoughts you had. The church *has* to release videos like this with the focus on the believer. They can not allow the person who "fell away" to give their side of the story. Anyone who thinks this video was not made with a v...

Re: Fact-checking Saints... Chapter 29 up 11/1 (Missouri battles, Danites, Milk Strippings, and Extermination ORder)

I was reading the Joseph Smith History in the Pearl of Great Price and I noticed that J.S. History 1:53 tells us:" I (Joseph)made an attempt to take them (the plates) out, but was forbidden by the messenger, and was again informed that the time for bringing them forth had not yet arrived, neither wo...

Re: Saints: The Standard of Truth Reviewed

It seems to me that the church has some lame excuses for why Joseph had to lie about polygamy but I've never read anything documented from him as to why he had to lie. As far as I can tell, the church never admits that he lied. The church makes the argument that the denials were carefully worded an...

Re: Saints: The Standard of Truth Reviewed

I liked the review. I agree that the book really put William Law through the ringer. If he was still alive he could sue them for defamation of character. Maybe some of his descendants might. The sources the book uses to accuse Law of adultery are especially lame- Joseph and Hyrum. In the same...

I may misunderstand the GA mindset, but could this be a reason Elder Uchtdorf was demoted from the First Presidency? Do some leaders see those who have empathy as being part of the problem?

Re: Joseph Smith with warts: June 10, 1844.

When I read the new "Saints" book, I felt it unfairly denigrated William Law. 1. It say Law was guilty of adultery. This is based solely, on testimony of Joseph Smith who also said: "They make it a criminality for a man to have a wife on earth while he has one in heaven, according to the keys of the...

Joseph Smith with warts: June 10, 1844.

The "Nauvoo City and High Council Minutes" edited by John S. Dinger offer a candid view of Joseph Smith, and how he used his power in Nauvoo. Pages 238-268 give an unvarnished view, of Joseph and Hyrum using carefully worded denials of polygamy, (lies actually: "polygamy revelation only applies to p...

Re: Radio Free Mormon vs. Elder Oaks

President Oaks says that there has to be opposition for agency to be meaningful. Why then does the Church so thoroughly minimize the opposition view? The 21st century Church is consistently more biased than any of our news networks, because it gives no opportunity for the opposing view. At least apo...

Re: Radio Free Mormon vs. Elder Oaks

ON a side note, Bill mentioned he has a list of 200+ statements from GAs that were spoken as doctrine that were latter disavowed. Anyone happen to know what list he is talking about? I would imagine a ton of those are regarding blacks and the priesthood. There are so many GAs who asserted it was do...

I live in Sandy, I occasionally visit Hermie's Sunday Morning gathering, it has been very enjoyable. I would be willing to travel to the Ogden area if there is convenient time to meet. I sure appreciate Achilles, and all you do, comments etc. You too, Ruben. It would be good to meet you in person.
