Re: Will it be a softer, kinder general conference?

I predict a talk that compares the corona virus to criticism of the Church, and tells members to keep their distance.

Re: "Telling the truth never helps you."

One of my favorite poems:

Tell all the truth but tell it slant —
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth's superb surprise
As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind — Emily Dickinson

Re: Thanks, Consiglieri!

I enjoyed the part where you mentioned footnote #31 from the Church essay. The essay says that Oliver testified under oath that the BOM was translated by "two transparent stones, resembling glass, set in bows." I then followed your lead and read the whole article. What a can of worms! If the footnot...

Re: Does covid-19 care if you're righteous or wicked?

From AOL: "Playboy magazine is shuttering its print magazine. The men’s magazine, launched at the end of 1953 by famed founder Hugh Hefner, said Wednesday that the economic disruptions from COVID-19, or coronavirus, were too much for its already strained print operations to bear." :o It's probalby g...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 12

It's ironic that Mormonism was established on a prophecy of a "place of refuge" that would be "on the borders of the Lamanites." Back then it meant Missouri. I used to wonder why Mormons never thought that Matt. 24:26-28 could apply to Joseph Smith?

Re: What’s your work situation?

Just checking y'all, haven't visited in a while. I had hoped Nevada would not be as hysterical as the rest of the country. Still no toilet paper here either. I'm in the Reno Carson area though, so maybe the rural areas are faring better. The governor has mandated telework for all state workers and ...

I'm a retired state employee with a pretty good pension, and so is my wife, so we're OK. Our portfolio took a hit, so we may travel less. But we do have our health. :)

Yeah, I felt it. It's the first tremor I've ever experienced. I slept through the 1959 earthquake on the Idaho/Montana border. I was only three at the time.

Does covid-19 care if you're righteous or wicked?

We've all heard the story about how Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because God and/or Abraham couldn't find ten righteous people within the city(ies?) Almost 4,000 years later the current plague seems to be aimed toward the Chinese and Italians. Is this because they are more wicked? Is it because...

Re: The Covid-19 scare brings better internet service

My reasoning may be poor: just because B follows A doesn't mean A caused B. Plus we've had techs come out and look at our situation and say our signal is weak, bu they can't do much about it. I've gotten used to it. But now it is significantly faster. Maybe I'll just count my blessings and quote Ham...

Yo....tell your ex-JW friend there are some ex-MOs....(me) who have immense respect for the integrity it takes to walk away. While on my mission in Australia, I made a friend who was an ex-JW. We attended his church service with him, and I was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED at the disparity of treatment given ...

The Covid-19 scare brings better internet service

I don't have much tech savvy, so when my desktop is slower than molasses in December (9 days out of 10), I mostly just suffer in silence. My wife complained when it took her 30 minutes to copy something the other day. :( However, today it has been running great, and I'm wondering why. :D :ugee...

Oh yeah..... The big whoopty-doo general conference planned for April with all it's promise of being a blow out spectacle will now perform for an empty house. That's prophecy alright. I'm actually surprised that they're going to put all the choir members together along with whatever orchestra and e...

I wonder when they will close all the temples? Leaving them open seems like the perfect virus storm. Old people and lots of face to face and handshaking interaction.
Yeah, my wife went to fill her assignment this morning. I'm thinking of how many hands she probably shakes.

This is interesting. I'd like to see a breakdown of the the vengeance deaths (deaths by God). How many are attributed to the flood; How many to the supposed genocide of the indigenous tribes of Palestine, etc?

Re: From Apostate to the HC

Thanks for posting on this again. Posting after two years gives a little bit of perspective. I enjoy you're references to John Calvin. I believe when people get a little power they can really mess things up. But despite Calvin's errors there is still a Presbyterian Church, which I attended for three...

Joseph Smith's secret to success

"If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with b#*! s#*!"-- W.C. Fields There is a recurring method to Joseph Smith's madness. Perhaps it starts with a story his Grandfather Mack told about bamboozling a group of Indians that he encountered in a forest. With only one companion, Grandpa ...
