Re: In the rubble of collapsed apologetics

Here is an analogy I've been thinking about. Neil Maxwell told apologists not to allow any more "uncontested slam dunks." Contesting a slam dunk in basketball, though, almost always involves committing a foul. The strategy of contesting a slam dunk has two weaknesses. First, it does not prevent the...

Sacrificed his son

I remember a Sunday School story about a train switchman whose little son ran out on a bridge and the switchman had to decide between saving a trainload of people or his son. It was a metaphor for Heavenly Father sacrificing Jesus. I've been studying the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The trial and exec...

I remember that talk. :( I don't think it has ever gained much traction among TBM's. :) I could be wrong. We'll have to see if Pres. Nelson brings it up again. :o

Re: Love

Our ability to love may be part nature and part nurture. Some of us grew up in homes where love was demonstrated constantly, others experienced much less love. I would say that love is a gift of grace, from God, Nature, or what parts of your brain are well developed. See: https://abcnews.go.com/blog...

Re: “Carry Overs” into the next life?

I watched the Elder Christofferson video that Angel posted. I think part of the problem is people take a particular message too seriously, or people have a different viewpoint and can't understand the message. Did Christofferson ever thing God wants some of us to be current bushes, and some of us to...

I am guessing they do not use masks at the MTC or if they do, they have to pen the symbols on the masks by themselves.
I'll admit to being slow. What's the joke. Is it too sacred to talk about?

What's up at the MTC?

The story is 91 out of 566 missionaries are Covid positive; apparently no serious cases. The MTC requires vaccinations and presumably has easy access to consecrated oil. What's going on?

Re: Willie-Martin testimony

William Palmer says: "He said in substance..." I think that many faith promoting stories start as a coincidence or a dream, and after decades of rehashed recollection and being passed around such settings as Sunday School class they come out as full blown miracles and/or visions. I appreciate Pale R...

Andrew D. Olsen, in his book The Price We Paid (Deseret Book)refers to, and quotes from the Webster story on pages 2-3. For sources he cites: "William Palmer, in Van Cott, Generations of Websters , 61-62; see also David O. Mckay, "Pioneer Women," Relief Society Magazine , Jan. 1948, 8." My Great, Gr...

Re: Life without Ketchup?

Yeah, mustard is very important. Fry sauce is very important. Ketchup by itself comes in handy, but, for me it comes back to fry sauce.
Worcestershire sauce is also very important.
The Church influences my relationships, but other than that, it doesn't do much for me.

Have a drum circle in the temple and call it the true order of drums. Dionysian vs. Apollonian worship. ;)

If there isn't there should be.

is there a media source where instead of giving one slanted political view, representatives of opposing views have a polite but deep discussion of a topic from opposing views? I'm thinking of something like Street Epistemology where both sides of the discussion are informed. Maybe it won't sell, but...

Re: Unwillingness to Apologize

In the Church was serious about repenting, specifically for MMM, they would explore how unquestioning obedience contributed to the tragedy, and then emphasize, or at least admit consistently that leaders can sometimes make mistakes.

Re: Street Epistemology and Mormonism

I watched most of part 1 where Magnabosco has a discussion with the missionaries and then with a young LDS gospel. Then I watched most of part 4 with Shawn McCraney. I think I've can appreciate both Street Epistemology and Shawn McCraney's somewhat independent Christian view. I would agree with most...

Re: Snufferism is better

Organized Religion could be compared to fire: It is a powerful and yet destructive force. Humankind has harnessed fire quite well. I don't think it has done as well with organized religion. Not yet, anyway.
