Re: Convictions
I believe in Love- Charity- (agape in Greek.) When Paul says Love is greater than faith, I think, "Yeah! Obviously!" The idea that God can simply be "Love" resonates with me. Love is an ideal I still pursue, though I don't live up to it. Life is painful, and I feel regret for pain I have caused. I h...

Re: Evangelicals
The problem I see is that evangelicals are becoming like the gospels present the Priests and Pharisees in Jesus's time: Condemning people, creating us vs. them political divisions, etc. Plus, many seem to be aligning with MAGA, which reminds me of the zealots of Jesus's time, as described by Josephu...

Re: JS Polygamy deniers?
I just listened to a full podcast denying Joseph Smith practiced polygamy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_c6ja7iJlA It was by a guy named Jeremy Hoops. His presentation was vey polished and even tempered. He did express displeasure with John Dehlin and Nuancehoe, but other than that he is very ca...

Re: Righteous Corecion
I'm thinking about my (19 year old Deacon's) decision to go on a mission. Reasons not to go. 1. I didn't have a testimony, even though I HAD studied and prayed. (Moroni's promise) 2. I was enjoying college, including studying two lifelong passions: music and history. 3. I was enjoying dating. Reason...

The Road not taken. by Robert Frost.
I have the poetry loving gene. Both my parents grew up in a time when memorizing and reciting poetry was a big part of their education. Mom recited poetry at home, and Dad recited poetry in the fields. The Robert Frost poem: "The Road Not Taken" continues to be meaningful as I near my 70's. What if ...

What happened to Church Sports?
My older brother and cousins grew up being very involved in Church sports: Basketball, and softball, especially. My brother would have played in the Church wide basketball tournament in 1966, but he aged out. He went as a manager. My cousin played in the 1970 Church wide basketball tournament. I thi...

More Second Class Saints....
I was reading the new Matt Harris book Second Class Saints, and it made me think about how the Church, and the concept of three heavens makes a segregated society. I'm reminded of Jesus's Parable of the Sowers, where all the workers are paid equally. the statement the last shall be first also comes ...

This was very powerful. Isn't music a wonderful means of expression?
Music was always my favorite part of religion. My vision of heaven is family and music.

Re: Legal Defense Fund puts the smackdown on BYU-Hawaii
The problem with Church leaders since Joseph, or at least Brigham, is they don't have the imagination to understand that people are different. Not everybody is a man, almost always white, with a conservative background, almost always raised in the "church." Hence they lay down rules that they think ...

Re: Annoying EQ Lesson on Garments
I put up with garments (one piece) as a young farmer, and it was a pain. When I got an indoor gig as a teacher it wasn't so bad. When two piece garments were introduced it was like I had gone to heaven. Then I got a custodial job and started getting a rash in the summertime. Thankfully, I broke my s...

The Fall was Good?
Lately the Algorithm God has been sending me videos of carnivores in the wild bringing down their prey. Often the prey is the newborn, or weakest member of the herd. Try watching some of these "death in nature" scenes- for example: a newly born fawn brought down by a pack of wolves. How can the Morm...

Re: BoM Generations - oops!
I remember reading the BOM in seminary, looking down at the dates/years, and thinking this doesn't seem right. there were too many years and not enough generations. RFM goes into detail about it. If it's not a smoking gun, it is one more nail in the coffin. ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

Re: Respect
The male leaders especially; even 19 year old- now 18 year old- missionaries seem to be affected by the adulation of members. It can be detrimental, as RM’s get their egos puffed up, and then deflated by real life relationships.

Right on, conman! NOM has been and is a lifesaver for me. Even though my TBM family has been relatively empathetic, there are some things they just don't get, and they probably feel the same way about me.
Thanks, everyone.

Evolution of God.
One thing that separates most of Christianity from Mormonism is what the view of what the ancients believed about God. A Christian believing in the Bible could say that early people knew something about God. But God left most of them free to imagine or conceive the incredible variety of ancient and ...

Re: New Spaulding Theory?
I've read about half the book, and it seems speculative to me. The author writes like Hugh Nibley; Take a few facts, find possible parallels, cleverly speculate. I thought the part about Athanasius Kircher was very interesting. I wish we could find out more about this guy: en.wikipedia.org › wiki › ...
