Re: Who wants a Christian "Sharia" society?

Stephen Wolfe wrote a book that is apparently in favor of Christian Nationalism. The Case for Christian Nationalism Paperback – November 1, 2022 by Stephen Wolfe (Author) I probably won't read it. Below is a summary from a 5 star review of this book. Again, this guy sincerely wants segregation, but ...

Re: Who wants a Christian "Sharia" society?

Thanks for asking nicely. :) White Supremacists include: David Lane, Richard Spencer, Bryan Betancur, Wade Page, Patrick Wood Crusius, and many, many others are listed on line. These type of people are know for wearing masks, or hiding their identity in other ways, so there may be many, many more fl...

Re: Looking back....

Excellent point. Our society recognizes it is unfair for 8 year olds to make an adult decision, but the Church baptizes them and then Bednar tells them they are obligated for eternity. It is so manipulative.

Re: Who wants a Christian "Sharia" society?

I'm reminded of the movie Cool Hand Luke (1967) - The Captain's speech " What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it. . . well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men." Let me try to comm...

Re: Tithe or you'll be burned?

I always heard that in regard to D&C 64:23 "Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming." The idea that I have always heard is that paying tith...

Re: Who wants a Christian "Sharia" society?

What a silly post- pretend words and profanity. I'm reminded of when Joseph said, "“What a thing it is for a man to be accused of committing adultery, and having seven wives, when I can only find one. I am the same man, and as innocent as I was fourteen years ago; and I can prove them all perjurers....

Re: Communication skills

I only get to this every day or two, but.... I think Alas's ideas and writing is remarkable. She's smarter on her bad days than I am on my good days. Different things trigger different people. My Dad's abusive yelling at me was as bad (maybe worse) as being punched, especially since some times it ju...

Who wants a Christian "Sharia" society?

I am not an expert on fundamentalist Islam, but from what I can see their general goal is to promote Sharia- fundamental Islamic law- a society governed by fundamentalist religion, and they hope it covers the whole world. In my view, much of the USA Evangelical Christianity, 21st century TBM Mormoni...

Re: Communication skills

I personally feel we have boundaries. The old "Your right to swing your fist stops where my face begins" bears that out. Is there something about the word "boundaries" or the way people use it that bugs some people? I'm remembering the grade school mantra about sticks and stones. Words can hurt and ...

Re: Looking back....

Right Hagoth. God could give us a memory of eternity. Hagoth said: "See, there's one way that God could give you a reason to make those commitments. How about a ceremony or sacrament that parts the veil briefly so you actually can remember?" A TBM might say, "The Spirit told me it's all true. That's...

Looking back....

Looking back, I recognize how the Church emphasized the 'covenants that I was required to agree to from age 8 on. It just occurred to me that the Church/Mormon Jesus gave me no input into those 'priceless' covenants that I had to agree to. They are presented in a "Take it or leave it fashion." I sup...

Re: Since we don’t have moderators

Thanks alas and others for the ideas. I think they will be helpful. Humility is very important. Especially when it is so easy to go to places on the internet where we can find people who agree with us and give us that nice warm blanket feeling. That is easy communication. Hard communication is diffe...

Re: Replacing the New Order Mormon

I'm late to this discussion, but I like it. I like the idea of trying to empathize with those who disagree with me, even though sometimes I let emotion take over and get pissed off. Ideas that seem weird or crazy to me but still make sense to others like: flat earth, young earth, Trump as the soluti...

Re: The most correct book....

Hey Cnsl1, did you write a chapter by chapter critique of the BOM at one time, or was that somebody else who posted on NOM? I've been trying to remember how to find it. Thanks for your posts, by the way. :D The BOM is not the best conversion tool, unless the person reads ONLY the BOM and uses ONLY t...

Re: Annalee Skarin- Mormon Prophetess?

From the cited WIki page: Annalee Skarin (born Annalee Kohlepp: July 7, 1899 – Transfigured 1952), was an American Latter-day Saint writer ... Wow! Whoever wrote that page was a believer in her... I have never seen someone listed as transfigured on wikipedia. Yeah! That made me wonder if some peopl...

Annalee Skarin- Mormon Prophetess?

It always amazes me when I learn about new, to me, actors in the Mormon drama. Annalee Skarin is such a person. Wikipedia gives a short description of her life, but leaves more questions than answers. Has anyone else encountered her story? read her books?

Old thoughts from Sunstone....I really liked this one.

Janice Allred: "This idea, that theology and revelation are incompatible, that theology is a substitute for revelation, is widespread in the Church. I will argue that, on the contrary, revelation and theology are inextricably interrelated and that the real danger to the Church is orthodoxy which doe...

Re: A miracle for Satan? Temple reopening delayed

I think Pres. Nelson and the LDS Church playing the "devil" card is toxic. They do it too much and, for me, it is ridiculous. I do know TBM's who would disagree with me, but if they reviewed LDS history it seems self-evident to me that blaming so many things on the devil is stupid, even if one belie...
