Re: Mormonism's Galileo Moment
The Gallileo moment may have it's origins at BYU in the early 1900's. BYU were professors fired for teaching evolution. The Church tries to defend itself, but the evidence continues to mount for DNA/Evolution. The Church leaders don't have the faith to make a bold anti-evolution statement, so they c...

BYU-I Censors Anatomy textbooks
You tube post on a textbook at BYU-Idaho blocks out the genitals on pictures of the human body. I can't believe this..... well yes I can.

Re: How deep is your hole?
I've been digging for 12 years now. My shelf broke in 2010, Although it was cracked long before that. I can accept that the average Joe on the streets of the MorCor can believe in the Church. I can accept that the average GA may think they're helping save the world. I understand how denial and confi...

Re: Mormonism's Galileo Moment
I'd love to hear Hagoth on Mormon Stories. :D Like Galileo's helio-centrism, DNA is a world view changer. It has totally changed how evidence is evaluated in the courtroom. It confirms Darwin's Theory of Evolution. Forensics, especially DNA, now supersedes witness testimony in the courtroom, as it s...

Re: Wake-up Call for Mormon Women
This is a great podcast. It made me reflect about how many times Church classes I've attended have been diverted from polygamy. It's obvious from a focus on D&C 132 why they don't want to talk about it. Section 132 show a narcissistic, dictatorial, obsessive Joseph, not a kind and loving God. At tim...

I just finished listening to Jfro on Mormon stories. It was an outstanding presentation! I appreciated his recognition of Hagoth as well. There are at many others, if I tried to name you I'd surely leave someone out, who post here with outstanding writing and other projects. We on NOM have enjoyed t...

Re: The Church and the Rule of Law
Joseph Smith famously said, “That which is wrong in one set of circumstances is right in another.” My point above is that in the Church the Prophet is the Law. It is Joseph Smith and/or Pres. Nelson that decides what is right and wrong. There are many stories from the early Church to the present, t...

Re: The "religion is a crutch" meme.
I agree. Religion is subjective, hence religious truth is subjective. (although few if any religions would agree.) But some methods that religions use are useful, others not so much. I have this on the authority of Boyd Packer. ;) He would probably disagree with many of us on this board, but ...

I remember missionary leadership was and is a big deal. I even hear ex-Mormons say “I was an AP.”

Re: The "religion is a crutch" meme.
Thanks, Stealth. :D That TED talk (atheism 2.0) made some great points. I look for way to build bridges, and so does the speaker, Alain de Botton. Saying, "I'm an atheist" tends to exclude and scare people who disagree. It can feel as scary and exclusive as saying "my Church is the only true Church....

"Perilous times will come." These words from 2nd Timothy have been repeated ever since they written in the Epistle to Timothy almost two thousand years ago. Two thousand years ago they thought they were in the "last days.'

"Faith is a choice not a chance." Hmm.... yes one can choose to avoid evidence that contradicts one's faith. But isn't that contradiction evidence of a weak faith?

bednar: minus 5 for not quoting the Joseph Smith translation of John chapter 1. He quoted KJV John 1, which explains Jesus was the Word. Nobody has explained why Joseph Smith changed this mistranslation.

I'm reminded of the song: "We don't talk about Bruno." In Mainstream LDS it's: "We don't talk about FLDS." Especially in front of potential converts.

The "religion is a crutch" meme.
One hears the "religion is a crutch" meme from time to time in post Mormon circles; Non-believers sometimes use it as referring to some people (mentally weak believers) who need religion to get through life. Sometimes it is used by religious believers (like BK Packer) to refer to insensitive non-bel...

Re: God’s Intervention
What if, just what if God was Love and Truth? Two very powerful ideas; as Victor Hugo once said, "Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come." :o Very, very few of us have actually seen or heard God. Some, or perhaps most of us have felt God. If God is an actual physical or Spiritual ...

Mocking Bald Prophets
In light of 2nd Kings 2:23-25, do you have any fears or concerns about our current bald first presidency, criticizing them, and watching out for bears; especially if you live in areas which bears are known to habituate?
