Re: My Country/Church- Right or Wrong! the price of Loyalty.

I think a prime example of attempting to change the church "from within" would be Nemo the Mormon. He tried for a number of years until top leadership had had enough and then they excommunicated the "thorn in their side". I felt badly for him and although he was quite sincere I thought he was naive ...

Re: The WORDS of Jesus...

I think the Savior used hyperbole in a number of his teachings. For example: "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." Or this: "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I ...

Re: Church to Sue Fairview Texas Over Temple

Church leadership learned this from their demi-god Joseph. Many times, when he got in trouble, he found a good lawyer to get himself free. Lawyering your enemies to death is a great strategy. But this situation also puts into clear perspective, the churches sad tales of unjust persecution back in ...

Re: Why is God so poor?

It is interesting that the scriptures call this a "temple tax". So it isn't a Roman tax but it isn't designated as a tithing either. I may do some research on this. Were the Pharisees collecting an additional tax on top of tithing? Or is this the same donation that was given by the widow at the ...

Re: How do we know the Church has repented?

I'm binge-watching "Suits" on Netflix. I never saw it when it first came out. 8-) The funny thing is that an episode the other night included the legal principle that if a corporation or individual "apologizes" for wrong-doing, they immediately become liable for damages. So it isn't that the church ...

Re: Why is God so poor?

Seeing that the Savior directed Peter where to find a fish that had swallowed a silver coin so that Peter could pay their temple taxes......I have to come to the conclusion that Heavenly Father just wasn't working with Joseph in the first place and never did. (Matt.17 24-27)

1 hour church is being tested in some locations right now. Heard this just yesterday. This way the corp can fit more wards into one building, sell off underused buildings and real estate and save money at the same time. Plus they get the added bonus of saying, "See, we're just like all the other ...

Re: Elder Bednar telling crowd to "Sit down!"

The absolutely great thing about Bednar's behavior is that someday (and that day WILL come) when he realizes that he made a complete a$$ of himself, it will have been in front of thousands, maybe even millions of people. Not just a few who would eventually forget him as the jerk down the street or ...

Re: How do we know the Church has repented?

Just as the "church" leadership at the time of Christ had a huge blindspot regarding their own sinfulness, current leadership (pharisees) would rather excommunicate (crucify) members who call out their failings than admit any wrongdoings. They don't like people who mess with their "good thing" they ...

Re: Lavina Fielding Anderson has been re-baptized!

The reality is that Levina couldn't have cared less whether her "ordinance work" was done and hardly noticed that Joseph Smith and all his cronies were missing from that glorious existence that she entered into upon leaving this temporal sphere. Finally her burdens (imposed by this idiotic religion ...

Ahhh.....but then it wouldn't be Mormonism. It would be Christian or some other altruistic group.

Re: How organized should religion be?

I've been studying the early Church Fathers lately. Clement, Ignatius, Polycarp, Irenaeus among others. If you look at Paul's writings you see that almost immediately, the "church" was in trouble regarding both organization and moral and cultural issues. The early Church Fathers tried to keep things ...

I don't have any inside info on the longevity of his parents but I think most life expectancy is related to genetics and healthy living decisions. The thing that puzzles me most about the whole affair is the demigod status attributed to a man who for the most part is little wiser than your average ...

Want to see coercion? I'll show you coercion.

This talk grows out of Elder Bedknob's talk on free agency which is a farce. This is what you end up with when the drivel rolls down hill.

If you want to respect the rule of law,” he said, “you’ve got to start from the original law giver, which was Moses. As I was reading along I thought for sure they were going to say, "from the original law giver, God." But no. Moses. Moses is good too... I guess. This was my thought as well. God is ...

Re: Respect

Most (maybe not all) male leaders are happy to be affable as long as you are looking at them with starry eyes and a bobble head gesture.
But ask too many difficult questions or disagree with what they say and you'll find out just how seriously they take themselves.

Re: What happens to the Honest Mormon?

The interesting thing about the "Honest Mormon" is that there so few of them to be found. Honest Mormons have a short life span because by stating the truth, they force other less honest Mormons to deal with reality, burst their bubble and experience the pain of grappling with their own mendacity ...
