Has anyone else seen this? It’s another interesting data point that shows institutional dishonesty at its finest.
It implicates another prophet long ago who was either wrong or the church fell into apostasy .

This is fascinating. I first heard about the existence of this letter 20 or so years ago. Every time I came across any mention of it, there was always an apologist perched and ready to proclaim that it either didn't exist or that it was a fraud. I wonder what caused the church to release it now, and without comment. And what will those apologists/deniers say about it now? Will anyone admit they were wrong or will they just pretend they never said anything about it.
What do you think the church's end game is in trying to come clean with some of these things? Every admission undercuts the value and reliability of modern prophets, or supports the argument that the current regime is in apostasy.
Also, will this cause some believing members of the SLC church to reconsider their stance on polygamy? Will the spirit tell them that they must obey the "thus sayeth the Lord" restoration prophets over the tepid modern faith-to-not-be-healed variety? I mean, this letter is a revelation directly from the mouth of Godalmighty. Can faithful members just ignore it? Was Godalmighty, like his mouthpieces, just a man of his times too?

Some Mormon Elders will wish to restore this Everlasting Covenant, especially with many new temples coming online.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Re: 1886 Polygamy Revelation published
I saw a photographic copy of this letter about 6 -7 years ago online and wondered:
1. How could the church continue to deny it?
2. How would they decide to spin it if they did recognize it?
I think as with most of these difficult truths, the church's hand has been forced by the internet to admit the truth regarding their authenticity. They can be seen as somewhat biased defenders of the faith (that's somewhat understandable for any corporation). But what their image can't be seen as is being utterly stupid. Hence their forced admission of the revelation's authenticity.
The fact that they have chosen not to comment reveals total petrification at the top levels. They don't know what to say or what to do. Faith motivates one to action. Fear causes one to freeze up. Their silence tells you everything you need to know regarding their cowardice when confronted by the truth.
