Re: Changes For Temple Ceremonial Clothing Announced

I got the email this afternoon and my pulse started racing as I contemplated the temple recommend questions and wondered if perhaps garments would become a temple-only thing. I am disappointed. I expect the new outfits to be more exciting than ministering, but less exciting than two hour church. :D ...

Re: Missed Tithing Settlement

I am not looking this gift horse in the mouth, but anyone have any idea what this means? Did the bishop just declare for us? We are still attending weekly and holding callings. It could mean that you weren't/aren't high enough on his list of people to be concerned about to have preemptively reached...

“Joseph Smith tried the faith of the Saints many times by his peculiarities. At one time, he had preached a powerful sermon on the Word of Wisdom, and immediately thereafter, he rode through the streets of Nauvoo smoking a cigar. Some of the brethren were tried as was Abraham of old.'" Definition o...

On Tea

Bouncing off the cigar discussion... My entire family is sick at the moment. Flu, colds, you name it; we have it - and it isn't pretty. DW has often made herbal tea for the kids when they are sick to help sooth throats... or something. I've never really been a big fan of herbal tea so I have never r...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint

I don't understand why institutions that claim tax exempt status aren't required to make their finances transparent. It seems like a simple solution for problems like this, and like Scientology. You can choose to either let the sunshine in OR pay taxes. If you're honest in your dealings with your f...

Re: Mormon Martians

I have not read the timesandseasons.org page yet, but I want to. The book series this TV show is based on has been one of the few bright spots of the past few years for me. That is, they are the only books I have read outside of actual mormon history and theology since my faith transition started ne...

Let’s forget about this for a second. What new policy or much needed change will be released to shift attention away? Please... no garments! no garments! No garments!!!!!! Earlier I listed what I thought would be the worst-case scenario and most likely scenario (from the church's perspective) given...

I wanted to post this for reference in case anyone was interested. It is a complete listing of the blog post interactions between Dr. Philip Jenkins and Dr. Hamblin on BoM historicity. The blog posts from Dr. Jenkins were originally intended to point out the absurdity of fringe scholarship being use...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint

Don’t get your hopes up people. First off, the membership doesn’t care, most of them probably buy the idea that the Church needs to horde money for the Second Coming, however stupid the idea sounds to the rest of the world. Second, the Church has an army of lawyers to keep crap from hitting the fan...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint

I read the the headline to my DW last night and she immediately told me she didn't want to hear it and left the room. Later she asked if we had paid our tithing this month and was sad when I told her we had not.

Re: Christmas, Bah! Humbug!

I like to celebrate the winter solstice because space, orbits, and understanding are cool! DW and I do a pretty good job keeping gifts minimal and well within our predefined budget, and we expend very little extra effort on cards, letters, or otherwise looking the part. That said, I do get sick of t...

Re: The Mormon Peloton Wife

Was this the norm for your friend before his faith crisis? Is his wife a distancer while he’s the pursuer in the relationship? Asking for research purposes as I’m preparing a NOM post called “God Ordained Marital Intimacy (GOMI) Before and After A Crisis of Faith!” So far the rough draft looks like...

The Mormon Wife got a new Peloton Bike from her husband for Christmas. Joyful and triumphant she made goals to ride the bike every day for a year. Her goals were driven by a desire to be more healthy, lose weight, and tighten her backside for the annual intimate moment when the garments come off. ....

Re: Observation #5: Conversation Killer

I've struggled engaging my family in meaningful discussion for years. They're kept so busy with callings and shuttling kids to/from church activities that they do not spend any extra brain cycles on science, politics, literature, or any of the other topics you mention. The minute any talk leaves sup...

Slavereeno!!! Its good to see(?) you again! I love this series of posts and can relate to all of them to some extent. Re: Bill Reel saves a baby!

He must have had a prompting. Hold the phone. Can God give promptings to apostates? No one who leaves the church can possibly do good, that just doesn't jive. Once you leave the church you're supposed to leave neutral ground, become an enemy to God, and let babies fall to their deaths. Something mu...

New Year's Indoctrination

This morning in bishopric the topic of new Come Follow Me manuals was brought up. No one uses printed copies so only a limited number were ordered for our ward. Bishopric asked EQ if we would plan to ID a few of the more "receptive" less active families and plan to visit them to drop off a copy of t...
