Oh, and: Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate?
I'm thinking maybe you can grip them by the husk if you have proper airspeed velocity.

Re: Kidd and Kamorah

To your point - it's missing that final link, and until that link is better established I wish it was not in the CES Letter because apologists launch into that first chapter with the maps and plagiarism claims and use that to hit the entire letter. My wife cited that as her reason for not reading t...

Oops, my mistake it was John Dehlin, not RFM. I will go back and edit the original so jfro looks silly instead of me.

Kidd and Kamorah

John Dehlin's podcast about Joseph Smith and Captain Crunch, I mean Kidd, is compelling listening, but there is still a piece missing for me. I would like to see a contemporary source that links Joseph Smith to the island and city of Comora, and Moroni. Grant Palmer wrote a paper about it in which h...

Re: House Church lessons

A TBM friend today asked me to watch a little Come Follow Me supplemental lesson video from Book of Mormon central. I checked and it's an HOUR long. Even my believing wife is highly unlikely to get cornered into watching something like that. I told him if he expects me to watch it there better be zo...

Anyway, you can read the Manifesto here: https://www.familylife.com/aboutus/the- ... manifesto/.
I notice their Donate button says, "Save a family today... Donate"

So in their eyes preventing a family is equivalent to saving a family? Sounds kinda Great and Abominable-ish to me.

Re: General Konference Predictions

I predict a general fog of boredom. Some people will shout "NO!" during the sustainings, but no one will know since they'll be sitting in their own living rooms in their underwear and fuzzy slippers. In other words it will make exactly as much difference as if they were doing it in the conference ce...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 38

I don't see the chicken thing as a problem. I think it was worthwhile to leave the ancient Nephites/Lamanites in the dark wondering what a chicken is/was because as we all know, the BofM was written for OUR DAY see. Ok, I'll give you that one, but if it's for OUR DAY Jesus needs to use intelligible...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 38

Good one, A-Bom. The one that first caused me problems was the talk about chickens: 3 Nephi 10:4 ...how oft have I gathered you as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and have nourished you. 5 And again, how oft would I have gathered you as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, Thi...

Re: House Church lessons

Our house church this last week consisted of: Opening hymn - I need thee every hour Opening Prayer - Sacrament A lesson on the origins of birthstones and the meaning behind each one. Closing hymn - Come thou fount of every blessing That sounds far more interesting and informative than any chapel me...

is only partially correct. The topography was actually changed drastically but by using the theory of "limited geography" one must realize that the entire "land northward" only consisted of 143 acres and if we could only find that ravaged and twisted acreage somewhere deep in the jungles of Mexico ...

Re: Next biblical scholarship overview - the global flood and mormonism

Incredible. How could someone write this without seeing how absolutely nonsensical it is? I liked this part: So, the answer to this question about the kangaroos is that they doubtless took the same transportation back to Australia as they took to go to the ark. And I doubt if they or many of the ot...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 37

This is one of those things that, when I finally thought about it for 2 seconds, made me say "wow, how didn't this ever seem like a problem before!" It's like Jesus got humble and repented on the cross but as soon as he got off he slipped right back into his old Jehovah shenanigans. The apologists' ...

Re: Next biblical scholarship overview - the global flood and mormonism

The question of how the kangaroos and penguins got to Mesopotamia before the flood and then returned to their respective continents afterward was answered by an LDS Living article some time ago. They were carried by angels. So God can fly them all around the globe via magic but for some reason he n...

Re: Next biblical scholarship overview - the global flood and mormonism

Great article jfro. "If there was a global flood, we would expect to see inscriptions of it in Egypt in the pyramids, but there is absolutely no reference to a global flood. This has implications for the Book of Abraham which we will cover later, but how did civilizations survive a global flood with...

Suicide

Many of you probably got the mailer from the church about suicide. I have to say I was relieved relieved by the message. In Elder Renlund's video he dispelled the myth that suicide is a sin as "totally false" and observed that people who end their own lives "have lived heroic lives and that suicide ...

Re: Mountain Meadows, 163 years later.

This is not a time for recrimination or the assignment of blame. Funny how the timing is never right, yet for some reason no matter how long they wait the blame just never seems to go away. I'm sure if apostates had been responsible it would have been the church doing the recrimination, and it woul...

Re: Is anyone talking about the new proclamation?

But, what the members didn't realize is that the PotF was primarily a political document, to be used in its anti-gay activism and court filings. Multiple sources have identified BYU law professor Richard Wilkins as the author. Wilkins devoted much of his life to trying to influence governments agai...
