... But it has to have been like 2 years, and he still remembers! I asked him to tell me about it and he perfectly described the concept.. And you didn't even have to hit him with it over and over again, every few weeks like the lessons from the other three Sundays on tithing, temples, and ...

Re: The WORDS of Jesus...
The sad truth is, we don't really know for certain one word that Jesus spoke, only what has been attributed to him. But, like Deacon, I am inspired by many of those words. I wish so badly that many of my Christian neighbors felt the same way, especially the words about loving your enemy, doing unto ...

Re: White Christian Nationalism in Jackson County- 2025
Expect to see a lot more of this kind of thing. The voters of America just threw open the door and welcomed in these kinds of "Christians" in ways they never anticipated. These are the kinds of Christians who would, if they encountered the real Jesus, would be plaiting thorns and hammering in the ...
Re: Visions
We often hear stories about how people saw angels, tongues of flame, etc. at the Kirtland temple dedication. What they never tell you is that none of these were seen by everyone. Each was reported by a different individuals, and some are genuinely bizarre. One person saw a hunched over old man with ...

Re: Visions
I think people have mental experiences that become more significant and detailed every time they remember them or recite them. I have no doubt that your ancestor remembered it that way, but maybe it started as an impression that became more solid over time. I do believe Joseph's sacrament was laced ...

Re: Conflating the Church with Jesus Christ
Just listen to conference talks. When they talk about obeying God or following the teaching of Jesus they are often substituting those names when they really mean "church." Bruce McConkie even said members should NOT try to have a direct personal relationship with Jesus. That's just for important ...

Why is God so poor?
Joseph Smith lost the 116 pages because he so desperately needed Martin's $3000 that he risked the entire project, even after God told him TWICE not to do it. Then God had to dictate an entire section of the D&C (Section 19) to try to scare/woo Martin into coughing up the money. He even appealed to ...

Re: Creative Mormon Mythology
[Bednar/Soaking meme] Wikipedia has a very informative article about soaking, including illustrations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soaking_(sexual_practice) There is also a historical precedent, regarding Apostle Albert Carrington: In 1885, one of the LDS Church's top leaders, 73-year-old apostle ...

Re: Joseph Smith takes the Fifth.
He probably didn't want to talk about it any more because it was a failed financial exploit. I can't think of any instances of him teaching from it. The only thing I remember Joseph saying about the BoM in that time period was to scold members for not reading it.

Re: Apologists: Good, Bad, Mediocre?
One big problem with apologetics is that the tools apologists use work equally well for just about any belief system. Apologists from any two religions with mutually disharmonious claims would call out apologist from the other group using the same tactics they themselves are using; an LDS apologist ...

One of the miracles of the Jaredite voyage that generally gets overlooked is how they all washed up on the same beach at the same time after a year of being blown around by raging storms.

Re: Happy New Year!
My favorite New Years mental experiment: Imagine you are a Jaredite. On January first you seal yourself into your barge, along with your family, livestock, barrels of live fish, hives of bees, food and water for a year (for humans and animals), and all the seeds, tools, etc. you will need to restart ...
