Re: Joseph Smith takes the Fifth.
He probably didn't want to talk about it any more because it was a failed financial exploit. I can't think of any instances of him teaching from it. The only thing I remember Joseph saying about the BoM in that time period was to scold members for not reading it.

Re: Keeping up with Trump
... Greenland would not stand a chance against the US military. Greenland is a territory of Denmark. Denmark is a member of NATO. The US is obligated to repel all threats to the sovereignty and autonomy of any NATO country. We would find ourselves in a war against not only our closest allies, but ...

Re: Apologists: Good, Bad, Mediocre?
One big problem with apologetics is that the tools apologists use work equally well for just about any belief system. Apologists from any two religions with mutually disharmonious claims would call out apologist from the other group using the same tactics they themselves are using; an LDS apologist ...

Re: Happy New Year!
One of the miracles of the Jaredite voyage that generally gets overlooked is how they all washed up on the same beach at the same time after a year of being blown around by raging storms.

Re: Happy New Year!
My favorite New Years mental experiment: Imagine you are a Jaredite. On January first you seal yourself into your barge, along with your family, livestock, barrels of live fish, hives of bees, food and water for a year (for humans and animals), and all the seeds, tools, etc. you will need to restart ...

Re: Lamanite Story from Siberia
Why have no Modern-day Saints stepped forward with the revised story of Lamanites from Siberia? Nope, but that seems like an obvious next step. I guess the closest thing is the Gospel Topics DNA essay mentions the remains of a "Paleo-Eskimo" in Alaska that date to the time of the Jaredites, which ...

Re: Inoculating young children
There is a bit of a fuss lately about a lesson on lds.org that is directed to young children. It concerns polygamy. Any thoughts? See: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/doctrine-and-covenants-stories-2025/44-plural-marriage?lang=eng I would hope even a Sunbeam would be wise enough to ...

Re: Officially declared non tithe payer and proud of it
Congratulations! The church wants your time and money. It's very freeing to put a stake in the ground for those things and declare that they will get no more from you. ... or telling me "it's great to see you, brother sparky!" when they've made no actual effort to get to know me. Boy, I remember ...

Here's another. Substituting the words "God" and "we/us" for "Church." Listen to just about any conference talk by one of the Q15. Every time they tell you what God wants you to do, or needs you to do, you can do that little word switch to make their statement more accurate. They obviously have ...

Re: What is the most harmful lie the Church has perpetrated?
Sustaining callings in church. The sham of sustaining callings flips voting on it's head completely. Instead of private ballots everyone sees each other. Instead of votes meaning something, it doesn't matter if you vote opposed - the only possible action is that the person who voted opposed gets ...

One thing I would like to see is the removal of D&C 132 from the canon. They removed the Lectures on Faith, why not D&C 132, at least the part that talks about concubines. :o Personally, I would hate to see them send every uncomfortable yet fundamental commandment down the rabbit hole where ...
