Re: Did anyone else hear voices?

Getting back to the original topic.

Yes, I have heard voices. But it is too sacred to talk about.

Couldn’t resist that one.

I also asked him if hallucinations were like dreams and he said no, very different, but had a hard time articulating what the difference was. It was a difference in experience, like describing what salt tastes like. Yeah, so in essence: Dreams are a "different form" of hallucinations. Got it! :P We...

Re: Fight The New Drug

If we need evidence that porn is NOT harmful, here’s one: Back in the “good old days” when porn was illegal in the US (before internet when it could actually sort of be controlled) but legal in some European countries, they did comparisons in the number of rapes. Guess what? Rape is highest in count...

Re: Elder Gong: “Please don’t post that photo…”

Up thread people were talking about backlash from moving too fast, well the increase in violence against transgender folk is one example. Sounds like victim blaming. No, saying the victims deserve it or cause it is victim blaming. Those who are choosing violence as a response to something they don’...

Re: Did anyone else hear voices?

What's the difference between a hallucination and a dream? If you're hearing and seeing stuff that's not there when you're walking around I think that pretty neatly fits the definition of a hallucination. However, there are two kinds - probably the most common - that happen in a sleep state when pe...

Re: Elder Gong: “Please don’t post that photo…”

Being transgender has got to be rough in many ways. The idea that someone would just choose to be trans is patently nonsense if anyone bothers to learn about trans people, their lives, and their experiences. The claim that someone would go through all of that just to go in a bathroom or win a sport...

Re: Elder Gong: “Please don’t post that photo…”

Those of us with transgender children have cause to worry. Last year was the worst year in history for violence against transgender people. And good luck finding a real career in a place like Utah. As a TMB I never thought I'd say such a thing, but I sometimes wish I had a gay child, because they w...

Re: Elder Gong: “Please don’t post that photo…”

Let’s compare something we are more familiar with, our own families when we left the church. We know our still believing spouse would be upset with us if we put up a picture on Facebook that hints to TBMs that they agree with our use of coffee or alcohol. Maybe they compromise enough to have dinner...

Re: Elder Gong: “Please don’t post that photo…”

My gay daughter might agree with you. I asked her once about “gay pride” and she turned up her nose like I had asked her opinion of Trump. I of course questioned that, and she said that gays have to respect the feelings of straights just as they ask to have their own feelings respected and she said...

Re: Elder Gong: “Please don’t post that photo…”

I think I get what's being said here by Gong's son. He wants full and unfettered approval of his lifestyle from his family and society at large. No restrictions. I get that. But on the other hand elder Gong might see himself not as approving but trying to salvage whatever he can of a relationship w...

No documentation, just word of mouth from the group just one week in front of the two famous ones. My paternal ancestor is the guy whose journal get used for trek and for quoting on TV, so y’all have heard his journal quoted. But they were one week ahead and so nobody pays any attention to the fact ...

Re: New Year’s resolutions?

OK, I've resisted long enough. I'll let the Fluffy social reject out and type: I hate New Year's Resolutions. If I feel the need to "set a goal." I see no need to wait until some arbitrary day in January to set that goal. Why do we make such a big deal out of setting goals for the new "year?" Maybe...

We also had a campout with zero scouting requirements thrown in. Campfire songs, tents/hammocks, and fishing for anyone who wanted to go. Those that didn't want to fish played capture the flag. It was really a lot of fun for everyone. No F&T meeting? The only way our YW got to do a campout, other t...

Re: Unwillingness to Apologize

Is the Church's unwillingness to apologize for errors a function of arrogance or evil? Well, since arrogance is one form of evil, yes. But I think it is both arrogance and fear. Arrogance in that they think they don’t make mistakes, that God is really behind everything they do. Sort of like what’s ...

Re: Dehlin Alternate Reality

Bah. John Dehlin has played a major role in educating a lot of people about aspects of the Church they may not have heard before, and I have to give him credit for that. But he's also kind of full of himself. And he has done some questionable things over the years that make me wonder about his judg...

Re: Dehlin Alternate Reality

Dehlin used to seem to come to NOM every time we talked about him and I figured he had one of those Apps that tells you when your name is mentioned. Obviously he doesn’t watch his App any more, cause we still talk about him more than he ever deserved to be talked about. Anyway, I must be in that cat...

Yeah, I remember that night. Wow, was it really ten years ago. For a kind of different perspective, I talked my husband into going to that meeting of NOMs. He was reluctant, but o assured him other spouses were going, and he finally agreed to go with the promise that he could tell me at any point t...

Re: DHO's Attempted Gaslighting of Electroshock Therapy On Gay Individuals At BYU

As we learned from a recent ex-POTUS, if you say what you want your devotees to believe, that becomes the truth. Anyone who opposes them is, by default, lying. Oh, absolutely. "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan."...
