Re: Another Mormon Stake President arrested for abuse of a child

I suppose if I had not had a knee jerk reaction to Tim B, I could have checked all that myself.

Note to self, avoid knee jerk reactions to jerks.

Re: Garments always hanging out and it drives me nuts

We could also have a massive protest where a single file line of 15,000 people are lined down the sidewalks and streets of Salt Lake City. All in line to drop a single pair of garments into a massive large pile of polyester and cotton at the footsteps of the church office building! And we could do ...

Re: Another Mormon Stake President arrested for abuse of a child

I just discovered this: https://floodlit.org/ FLOODLIT.org reports on sexual abuse cases involving members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). Yes, but that mug you see first thing is Tim Ballard, and he is the guy who has a lady who talks to the ancient dead, never existe...

Re: Please Sir, I Want Some More... Church

When I was a kid some of the girls in my class started asking me to come back to church, saying they missed me and all. But when I went back, come to figure out, the teacher put them up to missionary work, to reactivate me. They did not care if I was there or not, but they wanted the brownie points ...

Re: Separated vs Divorced

There are often financial reasons to stay married even when you can’t live together because you don’t get along. My daughter just separated, and they have agreed to stay married for financial reasons. I suspect that staying married will make it easier to get back together if they can work out a few ...

I agree with RR, that feminist issues make more women leave than historical issues. So, get a copy of In Sacred Loneliness, and leave it lying around. The Ghost of Polygamy is another. Bring up the issues. Get on Exponent II if you need information. Take her to see the Barbie movie, and discuss how...

Re: Lying

Not to take away from Alas's sound advice, but if you want to do something bad enough you will do it, and deal with the consequences. You want to try beer but don't want to do it behind her back. So you bring it up, she recoils. She asks you never to do it. You don't. Is your marriage really better...

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?

I think now, it would be pretty underwhelming, pre 1990 it was too creepy to be underwhelming. I mean, for those of us who went through the first time when the penalties were still part of it, that was not underwhelming, but WTF. I hereby pledge to slit my throat rather than reveal…… My first time t...

Re: Lying

[putting on my counseling hat] your situation may be different, but what the marriage experts recommend is to talk it over with your spouse rather than do something behind their back. The conversation might go something like, “what would you think if I tried an alcoholic drink when we go out to dinn...

Re: Everything scary was invented by The Church

I am cool with all that. I would add that the black/white dichotomy in how people think is difficult if not impossible for me to quantify or qualify. The black/white dichotomy about how people organize seems to be alarmingly extreme. Media is organized that way. Politics, college/trades, war/peace....

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?

I learned my first time through that I was not really a child of God, just the spouse of a child of God. He would inherit, and I was just the wife. I inherited nothing in my own name, and just got what my husband shared with me. That is not to say that I actually comprehended that on the first time ...

Re: The Cost of a Janitor

Charity/ public health responsibilities = taking care of those who genuinely cannot help themselves. Enable/doormat = taking care of those who are able to take care of themselves. It seems like liberals want to take care of everyone regardless of their abilities, and conservatives don't want to tak...

Re: Everything scary was invented by The Church

Humans just can't help thinking in black and white. The loudest voices seem to tell you that you have to be either a godless tree-hugger or a God-fearing climate denier. What's wrong with loving God and his creation? What's wrong with being stewards of the home God gave you, rather than merely cons...

Re: NOM for Thee, NOM for He, or NOM for me?

On the old NOM, using the word cult was against the guidelines because the meaning is imprecise and its use just makes some people angry and doesn’t accomplish any understanding. There were some good reasons for the word being banned. Does the church have some cult like tendencies? Yes. Is it the ki...

Re: NOM for Thee, NOM for He, or NOM for me?

Mayan, ranching is probably closer to home for me anyway. I lived on a ranch that belonged to my grandmother when I was little. And my dad continued to raise cattle on some land also owned by my grandmother for years after that. My brothers and brother in law all worked at the ranch every summer. So...

Re: NOM for Thee, NOM for He, or NOM for me?

I have probably been guilty of saying bad things about Trump supporters here on NOM. But, it is one of the only places where I can blow off stream, not about church but about what is going on in the country. I live in an area where some people have replaced trump flags several times because they wea...

Re: Hate vs. Indifference

... but I was told meetings were not a place for questions. Questions waste valuable brainwashing time! Yes, questions are viewed as personal attacks by the insecure who go to church for validation and approval. If it's not "uplifting" - divorce? Child abuse? Unemployment? If it's not uplifti...
