Re: Another Utah man kills family
Here are the facts from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/intimatepartnerviolence/fastfact.html It's a problem everywhere. And true to form, the church just makes it worse. It is a problem all over, but it has been improving over the years. Including how the church handles it. When my...

Sorry about the posting mistakes. I do know how, just brain malfunctioning. I’ll get more coffee to help my ADD so my brain stops short circuiting.

Re: Another Utah man kills family
That may be the way it is in some town in Utah but in other parts of the country the police and other organizations are prepared to help women and children in abusive situations. They can be sheltered. As a part of our "tithing", we now donate to a local shelter for abused women and children. They ...

Re: The countdown is officially on
My daughter just officially separated from her husband. She decided it wasn’t working, and decided not to waste time pretending things were alright, so she started packing up her stuff. If I had any advice, I would say just skip the countdown and get out. Like Meilingkie said, skip the extra years o...

Re: Reasons not to resign from church
My reason is that it would hurt my believing husband. It doesn’t cost me anything, well not much more than embarrassment at being still on the records of a church that has RR’s reasons for wanting to resign. And it gives DH the assurance that we are still sealed.

Re: Ever wished you would just cease to be?
I have been suicidal too, and what stopped me was that it would harm my children. I had a nephew who committed suicide, and it is still hard on his parents. My brother just holds it all inside because he feels he has to be strong for his wife, and she just isn’t the same. As to what comes after, I j...

Re: My best friend is out, but works with a bishop from HELL
Would it be worth it to you to take a copy of his texts to higher church authority? Or would you friend want to? You would have to weigh the costs of doing something as apposed to rolling your eyes and letting it go as not your problem. Or maybe it is partly a problem to you as this jerk is bishop o...

Re: Surrendering your moral compass to authority figures
On the most recent LDS Discussions episode on Mormon Stories ( https://www.mormonstories.org/podcast/problems-personal-revelation/ ), Nemo the Mormon said, The moral compass of the current leaders is evident, in that they say, "well, we don't have to give over information in Arizona because legally...

Scam warning
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Cry by the time we are finished with the scam. So, we never use the old computer, and Geek squad automatically has been renewing our membership, without bothering to ask or even tell us. So, today my husband catches it at renew time and calls up to cancel. And t...

Re: Mormons are disinterested in spirituality
There's an idea floating around that we are all born with a "God-shaped hole" in us. Christians use that idea as evidence for God. My first encounter with that idea was through CS Lewis, who I think might have gotten it from GJ Chesterton or someone like that. The argument was that having such a "h...

Re: Joseph Smith “sexual predator” label?
If there was one girl, you might be able to say that and not be just defending the indefensible, but there is a clear pattern. What if apologists were to argue that God wanted Joseph as a prophet because of his uncontrolled lechery? There is always that percentile that will throw away all critical ...

Re: Joseph Smith “sexual predator” label?
Don't get me wrong I'm not dismissing anyone's point of view, but I don't think there is enough evidence to be able to make a determination one way or the other. There was a lot of crap said about the Mormons and Joseph Smith in particular. How true all of it is in reality is something above my pay...

Re: Mormons are disinterested in spirituality
I read through the reaction of the TBM to your room that is conductive to spirituality, and kept thinking that I don’t think most Mormons know what spirituality even is. But I wasn’t quite sure what I even meant. But, I think I now know what I am trying to say. Most Mormons have spirituality all tan...

Re: Joseph Smith “sexual predator” label?
Perhaps I’m trying to understand the intent which defines differences between an opportunist and predator? I dunno, Red. I kind of feel like you're splitting hairs here. An opportunist is someone who "exploits circumstances to gain immediate advantage rather than being guided by consistent principl...

Re: God as a human father vs. God is Love
And then the Romans got ahold of the religion of the followers of Jesus and demoted women to unable to have priesthood... And invented cartoonish religion of witchcraft, which bears no resemblance to anything real people ever actually did or continue to do, to further demonize any woman who dared t...

Re: Historical details do not carry the saving power…
Reminds me of a recent story out of India, and I only skimmed it, so I may not have all the details correct. A newly wed couple was given a wedding present, wrapped and mixed in with the other wedding gifts. When the groom plugged in the new sound system, it blew up killing him and a couple of his f...

Re: Death and the freedom to not make sense of it
When the story requires that we believe God would take away some young child’s mother because the almighty God required her service more than that child did, nope, I don’t believe it anyway. Why would God want to use someone who is needed here on earth when he has plenty of people, billions, who liv...
Re: Alcohol?
No, for several reasons. One, I am diabetic, and alcohol metabolizes worse than sugar, so the things on the no-no list are in this order, alcohol, sugar, carbs. Second reason, it is nasty. I do not like the burn, I do not like the taste, so even all sugared up in mixed drinks, it is just nasty. Thir...
