President Nelson has Died

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

President Nelson has Died

Post by moksha »

Russell M. Nelson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dies at 101.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I honestly don't know how I'm going to abide Oaks. This is probably it for me.

To be sure, that writing has been on the wall for a long time but it still is difficult to face when the time came.

Not looking forward to an even more legalistic, conservative, bigoted church.

I wonder if they'll play a Nelson beyond the grave talk during general conference. You know they already have it pre-recorded.

Gen Con is going to be 10 nauseating hours of hero worship for Nelson and the triumphant entry of the Great God Oaks. I'm going fishin'.

What do you want to bet he left a long list of posthumous temple announcements to make sure no one trumps his numbers?

Nelson will finish off temples,

Oaks will do something different -

Expand family home evening to better include conservative grandparents.

New bright red hats for all - make faith ??? again?

Reveal previously held secrets that exonerate past priesthood leaders (and throw women under bus)

New leadership meetings for important people, new council- department of ##? Join game of changed names - change name of relief society, change name for programs, reorganization.

Do nothing, but will be received with gasps and head nodding- 2nd coming hand ringing.

Do you think he will continue his hateful LGBT rhetoric, or will he now play nice cop and assign someone else, maybe Christofferson, to be hard on The Gays and post guards to keep our restrooms trans-free?

It seems we have all been waiting and wanting this change. Many think that Oaks will really start to drive the church into the ground. I can’t imagine him not to put more pressure on the LGBTQ community as he has done so for 50 years.

Didn't make it to church on the weekend, so found this out later. But like many of you, my thoughts turned to an Oaks church experience. I feel bad for my LGBTQ+ member friends and family, and gives me some motivation to hang around and mitigate some of the damage this might have.

DW and I made up some excuses and canceled our weekly dinner with my TBM parents when we heard this. We really are not in the mood right now to listen to their sucking up to someone who actively hated what their oldest child is.

I get it. the demigod status of GA's has to constantly be bolstered up.
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.
