Re: NOMference Fall 2025 Sunday afternoon!!
I am so happy I've been in and out of listening to conference this time - I heard Oaks say family and shut my brain down.
"And I don't need you...or, your homespun philosophies."
"And when you try to break my spirit, it won't work, because there's nothing left to break."

Will you please expound on that?
There are 2 Gods. One who created us. The other you created. The God you made up is just like you-thrives on flattery-makes you live in fear.
Believe in the God who created us. And the God you created should be abolished.

We should all live on a farm dontcha know. It was all good then. The boys might have fallen in love with a sheep or two, but at least they weren't trying to marry other boys.

Didn't take Dallin long to shut down Nelson's pet building projects.
Re: NOMference Fall 2025 Sunday afternoon!!
Nope. He put an end to that. I wonder if somewhere there is a recording of Rusty reading of a list of the temples he would have announced if he'd lived another week.lostinmiddlemormonism wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 2:58 pm Didn't take Dallin long to shut down Nelson's pet building projects.

That is not too surprising for a nineteenth century religion, where the prevailing ethics were built around being good farmers. The problem is that the world has moved on and the PS&Rs are failing to reveal anything relevant. Long for the old days all you want, cling to olde tyme values as long as you can until your message is beyond obsolete.lostinmiddlemormonism wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 2:55 pmWe should all live on a farm dontcha know. Thank you, MoPag and everyone else for taking your valuable time and putting up with GenCon drivel long enough to provide a brief summary. More folks appreciate this than you know.
I'm happy that GenCon comes and goes and no one in my immediate family even asks or wonders or says anything about it. It's refreshing. I doubt my kids even knew it was this weekend.
I found it very interesting to hear that no new temples were announced, but I suppose they couldn't really announce anything since the premise is that God has to tell the prophet and we don't officially have one right now. What would be more interesting is if no new temples are announced next conference. That would suggest to people that it was rusty's not god's thing, so to keep up appearances, I'm guessing that Oaks will announce some, but not as many, and that the number will gradually decrease each conference until there is a president who wants to beat Rusty's record.

He knows we could use a man like Herbert Hoove again. Didn't need no Welfare states. Everybody pulled his weight. Gee, our old LaSalle ran great; Those were the days.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Yes, and we had a tractor pulling a hay wagon full of kids sitting on the left over alfalfa bits riding to school because no school busses. Everyone who ever really rode a hay wagon to school, please raise your hand. [alas raises her hand] and families were *bigger* then because with birth control being illegal and all but they but I look at my grandparent’s and parent’s generations and I betcha cyber cookies that families were not near as happy. In fact, from things I heard and saw, Oak’s generation, at least the women were pretty UNhappy. Big family does not equal happy family and lower divorce rates because divorce leaves women and children destitute does not equal happy families, and never knowing someone who is gay, let alone trans does not mean no gay or trans people, just that they had to hide like Democrats in the Mormon church. (And now that Nelson is gone and nobody is claiming the word “Mormon” is evil, I am making a point of calling us the Mormon church, otherwise known as LDS. [Wahhahahahaha said in an evil tone]
But I do get tired of especially white cis men nostalgic for a time when women were not allowed to buy a refrigerator without the store calling her husband for permission, or have a credit card, or get a divorce without *proving* that their husband has committed adultery. Those good old days when we had plenty of lynchings to keep blacks in their place. The “good old days” were only good for white cis men. Not so good for everyone else.
