riddle: Why is it impolite to talk religion/politics, but just fine to talk about job/school?
Back to school/back to work Monday morning ramblings. May we appreciate those institutions/organizations/communities which do more good for us all.

Re: Back to work/school
Well, with politics and religion, our culture has too many people with a high need to be right about religion and politics. So, you get two of these obnoxious jerks who just have to prove themselves right, and you are going to have an argument that could get unpleasant. So, cultural. I just read a thing about how missionary work is doing in Africa and it said that there is a cultural difference where instead of everyone needing to be right about their religious views, people are more curious about what others believe about religion. So, since it is curiosity, rather than a need to prove themselves the only ones with a correct belief, they can ask each other and compare without getting their egos all bent out of shape. They didn’t say if they were the same about politics. But I am thinking to myself that people in Africa are quite willing to kill each other over tribal differences, so maybe they just fight over different things. Or our politics or religion are our tribe. Probably that last idea.
