So I think that's interesting. A prophecy make take the form of a tangible disaster like weather or a financial crisis because that's how the conscious mind conceives of "disaster", but it's more accurately described as a mental or internal change. Like this quote from the Handmaid's Tale, "Better never means better for everyone... It always means worse, for some.” One person's end of the world is the beginning of someone else's golden age. With that in mind, we could take a view of underground prophesy within the LDS community as a sign of upheaval within the church and big changes. This may signal the end of the world for some, while it brings much needed relief to others.
Here's an example of a prophecy that I've seen floated around a lot since the most recent apostles were added. It comes from Bishop John H. Koyle who died back in 1949. He's the guy who's associated with the Dream Mine. I want to emphasize, it's not important whether or not this is accurate or real. What's important is that people today are treating it as if it were real, meaning that it's tapping into some real anxiety which is driving its acceptance.
So what would this decades old prophesy be tapping into within today's imagination? It's the general anxiety that the world is changing and that the leadership within the church are unable to handle it. Underneath the apparent support of the brethren, the sustainings, and lip service paid, there's a fear that these guys aren't who they claim to be. It's no wonder that so many have quickly flocked to people like Julie Rowe and Denver Snuffer. It's a reflection of this subconscious belief that the wheels have come off the wagon. While the content of these prophesies can be quickly dispense as nonsense, the subtext is actually really informative and may legitimately act as a portent of things to come within the church.Relief Mine II wrote: 47.Troubles in the valleys for the Church will commence following the passing of the 12th president of the Church (Pres. Kimball).
48.Near the time of the end, many of the General Authorities will become quite old. Troubles will start when three leaders will die in close proximity to one another. The new replacements will not be able to hold the Church together.
49.In the end there will be a great apostasy in the Church. A rift in leadership will cause many members to leave. Something will happen to make members congregate in and around the churches, and at various other locations to discuss and ponder the great disturbing changes occurring. This will mark the commencement of the time of problems for the Church, as well as the time of apostasy.
50.The Bishop told of an interview with the Prophet Joseph in Salt Lake City. The two of them were seeking out the latter general authorities. The Bishop asked Joseph what he was going to do. Joseph’s answer was, “I’m going to release them, every last man-jack one of them.” (A man-jack is a mule that must be castrated or cut off to remove their unreconcilable stubbornness to Godly direction.) Joseph then stated, “They had their chance and failed!”
