The apologetic answer that the scribes and joseph were just playing around with trying to decipher the eqyptian in a secular manner is a pretty interesting interpretation. Why would they bother when they had the oracle of God sitting right there?

Yeah, if that's the best they can do I wouldn't hold out hope. I have never read a good apologetic answer for the fact that the KEP has Joseph's handwriting I'm it or that his Egyptian lexicon includes previously revealed Adamic words (e.g. angls men = angels )
