The big leak
The big leak
On Reddit Exmo, we're all waiting for the big leak that fearless fixxer and mormondocuments are working on.
Do you think it will actually materialize in anything of value, even if it's not a death blow, or just smoke without fire?

Re: The big leak
I would temper your hopes with this leak as amusing as it might be. Think about this: Despite the overwhelming evidence against Scientology and being far more oppressive and evil than LDS Inc, the Scientology organization still has thousands of devotees and lots of money. Belief and faith are persistent.
The painful problem with all the leaks so far even after October Surprises, mission president handbooks, new essays, old journals, and whatever is forthcoming is that the LDS church has a solid narrative for faithful members. We are probably going to see a long slow decline. I think we all vainly hope for dramatic catharsis but it's not going to happen. I'm sorry that you will need to continue being the patient and understanding party in whatever opposition you might have with the LDS church.

I was curious. What do you think would be a leak that would actually cause significant damage to the corporate church?
I was trying to think of what I would love to see.
1) Full financial disclosure. That would definitely have some great gems in it. Life time payroll for the leadership and what that really looks like. The true lack of charity from the corporation. ????
2) The real reason why the November anti-child policy was given. And I am absolutely positive the first reason was NOT because they love these kids just too d*mned much.

3) Uchtdorf and Eyering enjoying a nice cigar and glass of bourye (whiskey). Now that would be interesting. That would definitely prove to me that they are in harmony with the teachings and practices of joseph smith.

I don't have high hopes, but I am very curious. No matter how damning the leaks might be, it won't do much to the majority of the faithful ranks, if they even hear about it.Corsair wrote:I would temper your hopes with this leak as amusing as it might be.
I suppose my favorite part is watching the COB squirm with yet another problem to mitigate.
What do I suppose would be a leak to cause actual damage? Full financial disclosure could be a hard hit. Internal communications regarding how "revelations" are drafted might rattle some chains.
Some type of list regarding documents/artifacts/stories that are guarded in the vault might hurt.
I dunno, even if one of the Q12 came out publicly and denounced it, that wouldn't be enough to put a bullet in the head.
These are great times to be alive, we are watching the renaissance of Mormonism

Honestly, DH has fully embraced the fact that the corporation is deeply flawed but clings to Joseph and the Book of Mormon in a very nuanced Bushman, Givens' kind of way. For his sake (and mine), I wish there could be something that comes to light that clearly blows the lid off the church at the foundational level.

Re: The big leak
All that the videos/leaked documents have confirmed to me is that the church acts like a corporation. I knew that already. The only thing mildly interesting is how that senator voted how the church wanted, and they even confirmed the existence of the words "church broke." Even if the smoking gun exists in the documents, like a GA slush fund, I would'nt be surprised, and I'm sure TBM's would similarly slough it off, "well, they do need a living allowance." So while I've read them and would read more, the documents are a Rorschach test for how you feel about the current corporation, it seems to me.

Re: The big leak
I agree this is the biggest thing to come out so far. I could see this making it difficult for mormons to win elections outside of the mormon corridor. Any chance of a mormon president are pretty much over. It would have been interesting if this had come out during the election in 2012.Mormorrisey wrote:All that the videos/leaked documents have confirmed to me is that the church acts like a corporation. Re: The big leak
What ever the leak is I would like it to be enough for the church to loose it's tax status. I've thought about a few other things but don't think they would be as effective something that would really hurt the church itself and publicly humiliate them. I would like a leak that would bring a federal investigation into the practices of the church exposing the church for what it is.

Friends, I believe the leak has placed the fear of Satan in the minds of church leaders. There are probably teams of people reviewing every document, surveying the risk. The risky documents are being placed in a secure electronic vault with extremely limited access. I'm sure new policies are being added to the thousands of existing ones. Server access is being reviewed. Access of many will be revoked or diminished. It is what any Fortune 500 company would do.

Re: The big leak
If this is correct, which I have no reason to doubt, wouldn't the teams of people be faithful TBM's? Shouldn't that cause some severe cog dis? Of course most won't recognize it, but that should be a big red buzzing alarm to a believer. Nah, not if it's seen as protecting the church from the evil world and the nasty apostates.Korihor wrote:If this is correct, which I have no reason to doubt, wouldn't the teams of people be faithful TBM's? I imagine the scripture of the month is Isaiah 5:20, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!, "printed on a big banner as you walk through the doors.
In other words the defense is that the information itself doesn't contain any dirt but the hearts of conspiring men will misconstrue the information in some way. In the 1820s it was the 116 pages. In the 2020s it's the 116 terabytes.

Re: The big leak
I assumed it was the video leak. More of a low-to-medium size leak. Otherwise, we had another surprisless October.

There was something they were holding off on until after the election, if I remember correctly. It might be a while now that a recount will be happening. Maybe another October surprise that ends up being late January?

Re: The big leak
Supposedly, it was a recording or video of the leaders (Q-15?) admitting they knew the church was fake, or something similar. I have no idea why the timing was so sensitive - the "Fixer" guy on Reddit claimed the timing of the leak could reveal the person's identity. Meanwhile, the would-be leaker wanted money, and that angered a bunch of people on Reddit.
If the person was associated with the COB and in fear of his or her career, I can see how that would create enough stress to want to have a financial buffer if there could be a serious fallout. Some pointed out that many people would step up with financial assistance if the information was that good, but nothing ever came of it.

Doesn't the big leak come shortly after the big beer?
