Cool. So how do we get a sub forum going? Who is the head honcho around here anyway? I can message whoever. I like the idea of a sub forum with a weekly thread. If it's a busy week and nobody starts one, that's fine but at least the organizational option is already set up. I don't anticipate that this will be a really busy board because let's face it, I didn't read the lessons much before my faith journey, and now, well the fire is just gone. But it would be nice to have a place where people could discuss what they are thinking as it pertains to GD.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I brought up the topic on the moderators forum but there hasn't been any discussion yet. Please stand by.

What would you want a "sub-forum" to look like and operate? I can make this happen, but I need a more precise set of requirements.

I would think call the Forum "Gospel Doctrine 2017" and let the people who want to start threads with the week or lesson number.

If it were "Gospel Doctrine 2017" what do you do with the forum once 2017 is in the past? Create a new 2018 forum? I'd rather see a generic "Church Lessons" forum.

Individual threads can be on specific lessons from the gospel doctrine manual, specific lessons from the wretched teachings of the presidents manual, specific lessons from the gospel principles manual, etc.

There is some overlap with the Doctrinal Discussion forum though. Why not put threads in that forum and make sure the topic titles conform to some standard that can be used to search for specific lessons. E.g.

Gospel Doctrine 2017 Lesson 1: [title]
Gospel Doctrine 2017 Lesson 2: [title]
PH/RS 2017 Chapter 1: [title]
PH/RS 2017 Chapter 2: [title]
Gospel Principles Chapter 1: [title]
Gospel Principles Chapter 2: [title]

The mods would have to stay on top of things, editing the thread titles if necessary to conform to the standard, making sure there aren't duplicate threads, etc. It's an alternative to creating a whole new forum.

You can use the Doctrinal Discussion forum to gauge interest. If the Sunday lessons threads start to clutter the DD forum you can create a Church Lessons forum and move them all there. It might be better than the alternative, creating a Church Lessons forum from the get-go and there only being 3 threads in there.

I think a combination of what Brent and nibbler have said is in order. I would rather see a separate forum primarily to keep it looking organized. It would be easier to refer back to things, make a return and report style post, and even start threads that may be weeks ahead of the lesson if it was all in one spot uncluttered with other stuff. But I do think that this may be a really slow board, and if having it in the main DD board would help it along i am all for it. As far as the title I agree with nibbler, make it a "Church Lessons" board and have the titles standardized.
Does anyone else have any preferences? The main question seems to be separate board or combined with DD?

Because I'm an old man with too much time on my hands, I went over to the local distribution center and picked up a teacher's manual, "Revelations in Context" book, and student manual for $7.65. The teacher's manual seems very typical. The "Revelations in Context" has the discussion about Oliver Cowdery and the sprout/rod. No mention that the revelation was changed later. The big question to me is "why did Joseph Smith change it"? That question might be considered an good topic for discussion, or an ambush.
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

So it sounds like we go with a "Church Lessons" forum set between "Staying Faithful" and "Gatherings, Events, and Announcements". Will this work for these kinds of discussions?
