Inaugurational prayers

Post by Korihor »

This is my first presidential inauguration since losing my TBM mindset.

These inaugural prayers just sound kinda silly now. The things they say are nice - wisdom, guidance, etc. But somehow Jesus is mixed in there at random. I dunno, the theatrics of politics is crazy, the spice it up with the mental gymnastics of religion and it's just kinda hokey.

Agreed. But where is TSM? Shouldn't he give a true order of prayer prayer so it really counts?
The church has engineered your eternal family into a commodity that can be purchased with an annual fee. The fact that full tithing payment is a requirement for saving ordinances is the biggest red flag imaginable. Hagoth

I just could not motivate myself to watch this event today. I'm just glad it's finally over (and yet, just beginning). I'm so sick of the election and the crap in the news and all the attempts by media outlets to analyze it and dramatize it. I even turned off NPR for the last couple of weeks. So this just in the chat channel from some of my TBM cooworkers:

Coworker 1: Listening to motab at the inauguration right now. Live on all networks.
Coworker 2: Yeah, MOTAB was awesome!
Coworker 3: I felt that performance through the monitor, that was awesome!
Coworker 1: Yeah, they should perform more often with that military band.

Me, thinking out loud: Kill me now! I think I'll find a good cat video on YouTube.

Had the prayer-givers known the exact content of President Trump's inaugural address ahead of time, they could have added a reference to Jesus putting America first and foremost. Sort of like a Jon McNaughton painting of Trump and Jesus holding the Constitution between them, while God rays shine upon them and F-15s strafe foreign invaders, Muslim terrorists, and Washington insiders.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

HA!

But really. I'm sure that "The Donald" has his name written on the prayer rolls of many temples right at this moment, so the "true (creepy) order of prayer" has been taken care of...

[thoughtbubble] I wonder how many people who don't really know about the creepy plagiarized ceremony would think it's really creepy that their name is on that "roll" and are being prayed about by people dressed in creepy costumes? Things that make you go hmmmmmmm...[/thoughtbubble]

I think MoTab did a good job with the song. They are a really good choir.

Of course the TBM's will say how awesome they are and we all want to puke. Just like all the Trump supporters say how awesome he is and all democrats are throwing up in their mouths.

While hearing these prayers and readings I was thinking about how absurd this all sounds to me now. Someone referenced Lincoln's second inaugural address where he said that both sides in the civil war "pray to the same God". This just highlighted the absurdity of it all.

Do we really need to keep believing in the myth of Christianity? Am I crazy for wondering this?

Jon McNaughton needs to come out with some new paintings! I almost forgot about that guy. Let's see a painting with Trump leading the righteous holding aloft the constitution of the United States! Actually, I expect that Jon McNaughton quietly made that painting but with Evan McMullin front and center and it's hiding down in the McNaughton basement. Every few days Jon McNaughton goes down to weep in front of it.

These prayers seem silly to me as well. As if a god or a million gods are interested in watching over Donald Trump while a child somewhere in the world is dying of hunger every few seconds.

Somewhere there is a teenage mother giving birth to a baby which will have a disease which will take both their lives. Yet they drone on, bow their heads and close their eyes because they feel that the god that they are praying to expects that. It is silly, of course, but at the same time it is very sad.

Totally agree! I don't mind the general prayers that reference a vague "higher power" and apply to everyone, but I really dislike prayers that get anymore specific than that.
