No more cell phones
No more cell phones
We were told today in our branch no more cell phones in primary or gospel doctrine class. Branch Pres says he has seen to many games on cell phones in the middle of classes !!! , I thought whatever dude just one more thing for the church to screw me with. Par for the course , not at all suprised.
Re: No more cell phones
You should bring one of those Sudoku paper books and do Sudoku puzzles during class. See, people can play games without using phones.

Or just keep using your cell phone. What's he gonna do?

And make a point of being on NOM so if he catches you, you can share.

Yep. They constantly tell us from the pulpit about not using cell phones, I smirk, and keep reading NOM on mine. Just try and stop me!
Or maybe I'm just a jerk. That's possible.

I see people cutting out pages inside the Book of Mormon so they can put their cell phone inside there just like inmates hiding their contraband.
Re: No more cell phones
Some years ago I purchased a nylon book cover protector at a local book store. Printed on the protector in gold letters were the words Holy Bible. I was able to slip it over whatever book I was reading and look pious in church.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Re: No more cell phones
You could counter with: "What are you doing to make people not want to play games on their phone? People are playing on their phones because they are bored. Talks are boring and repetitive. Lessons are not inspiring. So people go to their phones to release the tedium. If the lesions and talks were more engaging then cell phones would be a non issue."
Sounds like the bishop/BP is trying to blame the members for the poor teaching skills of the ward/branch. Classic LDS shifting of blame. I would throw it right back on him.
If you know who prints the program, ask them to include a Sudoku. Suddenly those programs would be a lot more popular. 'See, I'm looking at the program.'

Re: No more cell phones
That's dumb. When I was an active member, I had my hymn book and all scriptures on my cell phone. Whether I used that device for church stuff or to play games, isn't that called free agency? I didn't stray, because...TBM. I understand the rule in a work place where you are supposed to pay attention and are paid to do so, but not in a church or any place you are spending your own time. On the plus side, maybe if you use your phone, defying obedience, maybe...just maybe, you'll get kicked out.

This is brilliant. Cheap, hardcover Books of Mormon can be found at any Deseret Industries or Goodwill. But, as others have noted, what are they going to do if you just pull out your phone in class? Kick you out?

I can visualize it now:

Re: No more cell phones
Perhaps they should increase the entertainment and spiritual value of the church services?
If it wasn’t so damn boring then people wouldn’t have to be on their cell phones.
Make a better product that people actually WANT to participate in.

The branch president has the authority to tell you to not use your cell phone exactly to the extent you allow him to.
