SM today.

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

SM today.

Post by Emower »

Today we had a youth speaker. He was assigned the proclamation on the family. I was proud of him because he obviously did this talk all on his own. I was disturbed by the content he came up with when left with the proclamation and his own church experience to draw on.
One quote: "if we don't marry a woman, I mean somebody opposite, than we cannot return back to Heavenly Father and we will never be happy."
Another quote: "kids are the top part of heaven, and we can't have kids unless we get married. So to be really happy we need to follow the commandments and get married."
This poor kid will grow up with this kind of crap drilled into him and it is so distressing to me to watch it happen. At least I am not the one drilling it into him anymore.

I loathe the way the church obsesses over Fam Proc.

The Family Proclamation is not nearly as inspiring and profound as most believers think it is. It's basically "Families are great and they should be nice to each other! Plus, don't be gay." I'm not sure that the apostles of the 1940s would have been nearly as impressed with it as members seem to be today.

In a "church" with prophets, seers and revelators, where there is no prophesying, seeing or revelating...

You have to grasp on to whatever you can get. Even if it is a legal document written by a bunch of high-paid attorneys...
