The Spirit warned me of danger

Post by Hagoth »

My wife and I keep getting invited to the weekly Empty Nesters meeting, but we have never attended. She works Monday evenings and I have this problem with wild horses not being able to drag me to such things. I have tried to adhere to Aunt Wendy's Not Even Once doctrine in this regard to avoid getting unwanted barbs hooked into me.

This week everybody kept telling me that I should not miss this one (actually mostly telling my wife that I shouldn't). A special guest was coming to talk about Middle Eastern archaeology. OK, sounded like my kinda thing, so I zipped on my jacket and I walked to the church. As I approached the Relief Society room I heard a somber hymn playing and caught as glimpse a very professional display of ancient oil lamps sitting on the table.

Suddenly an alarm went off in my head - like what we refer to in Mormonism as the spirit leaving you - like I was walking into a trap. OK, fight or flight? I walked right past, out the opposite door, and headed home feeling like Jimmy Buffet with a blown-out flip-flop. Later that night my wife got a call from a friend. "Hagoth would have loved it, it was a lawyer who runs a travel company and he had all of this evidence about the places Lehi stayed after he left Jerusalem; you can even pay his company to take you on a tour."

Lesson learned? always heed the prompting of the spirit. Now if only I could find my keys.

Years ago, my dad would have gone to something like that and donated to the man’s next exhibition and bought the book from Deseret a couple years later.....

I’m glad Jimmy Buffet’s spirit guided you to safety.....

I’m getting a great visual of Abe Simpson walking in the burlesque house door, seeing Bart, and walking right out again without missing a stride.

You probably dropped your keys in the hallway when fight or flight instincts kicked in. It's probably not worth seeking them out again, just cut your losses.

Whew!!!

That was close, Hagoth.

I would have been near fist to cuffs before the night was over if I had attended and word would have spread like wildfire that Bro. Palerider is such a wet blanket on the restored church. He's also kind of dangerous... :?

Then the Bishop would have put the word out to avoid Palerider's place of residence and any unnecessary contact. And always have a priesthood holder with you if contact is unavoidable. 8-)

The spirit exists in many forms.

My wife likes to go to those FHE old people things. I go with her most of the time. They are rather bland meetings of adults playing kiddie games.

I find it interesting that even at that age the intellectual level the church keeps its members at is very junior high.

Speaking about spiritual danger, apparently, things have gotten so bad that there is even going to be a Holy War. Not only that, but it will be broadcast live tonight at 8 PM on the Fox Sports 1 channel. (#691 on Comcast).

The forces of truth and light will be represented by some group called the Running Utes. Not sure what demon spawned entity they will be forced to battle against. Anyway, I am rooting for the Utes in hopes that the sun will rise tomorrow.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I assume everyone noticed the sun rising this morning. Is was a well-fought battle.
