A TBM friend of mine posted this on his Facebook page. As I read through it the thoughts of how:
1. A members' bias can make the church say anything they want in order to get them to agree with their pet peeves.
2. The silliness of the church to even be involved with this sort of thing.
3. The immaturity of people who have to run home to mama to get their support.
4. How the church's "law of Moses" mentality creates a culture for this kind of behavior and fosters co-dependency. How many piercings per ear are appropriate?
5. The "worthiness" culture sets members up to judge one another and only exacerbates an existing problem.

Since some members insist on looking to the Church as the ultimate guide for living their life, I thought it would be nice to clarify the position with respect to vaccines:
Keep up with vaccinations for all members of your family. Remember, the Brethren are old men and are very susceptible to the ravages of an epidemic. Epidemics can happen when too few people are vaccinated. So if you care about the health and safety of the Brethren and your loved ones then get those needed vaccinations. Capiche? Don't force me to utter a "Thus saith the Lord" on this point!
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

This is so painful to read... and, yes, when you have a church that has doctrine's and history like jello you can make it say whatever you want it to whether it's not getting vaccinated or believing that marrying 14 year olds is OK if you have the priesthood flowing through you.

I bet if I called some random COB guy and ranted at him for long enough he would eventually encourage me to take a teenage bride just to get rid of me, and he would have no problem in reassuring me that the Prophet Joseph Smith agrees with me. That's good enough for me!
