Karaoke, Axe Throwing and Beer Denied!

Post by RubinHighlander »

Recently the DAB Commission denied a couple of businesses liquor licenses over some changes to the laws.
The commission has been grappling for the past month with whether karaoke is recreation, and if Heart & Seoul would qualify for a beer license as a substantially similar activity to those listed in the law.

After reading through this article this morning it felt a lot like the debate going on in TSCC over doctrine vs policy vs revelation. And it should be no surprise since TSCC writes the legislation that controls the liquor laws and DAB commission in Utah.
"Anytime that there's a lot of discretion built into the liquor code, it invites a lot of controversy and kind of puts them in a difficult position," he said. "It's best if things are spelled out in code instead of putting the DABC and the liquor commission in the awkward position of have to divine what the Legislature might mean."

"Divine" what the Legislature might mean?! How about I stick this rod of Aaron up your commission and see if that help!

This is the problem TSCC and Utah's church run government will have in trying to regulate every aspect of people's adult lives. They'll keep backing themselves into a corner, fighting against social pressures.

Now I can't argue against the logic that beer and axe throwing might be a bad combination (if only the lawyers would let Darwinism happen), but karaoke and beer definitely need to go together!

Beer and ax throwing seems like an insane combination.

I strongly associate karaoke with karaoke bars. Has karaoke been usurped in Utah into being associated with some church activity or is letting people have a chance at the microphone so firmly ingrained as a Testimony meeting staple that using one in other venues frowned upon?
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

People standing around, singing and drinking beer doesn’t seem too detrimental to society. People drinking and throwing axes...does not sound like a good combination.

Ya know, I never thought about a FAT meeting or GC being like karaoke, but watching them read off the prompter or repeat the same phrases over and over again...may as well ad the beer and wine to that and get some entertainment value out of it.
