Re: Why don't they teach this aspect of Celestial Marriage?

I don't remember where I learned / was taught this, but the key words of that verse are highlighted: D&C 132:26 Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man marry a wife according to my word, and they are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise , according to mine appointment, and he or she shall commit an...

Re: The Brighamite God.

You are right wtfluff. Differences between Brighamite god and FLDS god are not substantial, especially if you are a man. One big difference for women: FLDS god doesn't let women have much say in who they are going to marry. Brighamite god does let LDS women have a say in who they marry in most case...

Re: The Brighamite God.

''' "The Brighamite god." this name is useful in clarifying differences between gods the leaders and members refer to, and even try to conflate. Don't confuse Him with the FLDS god, although they have similarities. ... Similarities? Or maybe differences? I mean, there are some VERY slight differenc...

If you haven't watched the entire press-club song-and-dance it's definitely worth it.

This dome room is new to me. So, this is age is of the dome in the dome room? Directly below the dome is the Holy of Holies?
The photo is taken from inside the "dome room," and yes, the holy of holies is directly below that dome.

Re: Does belief equal stupidity?

How does compartmentalization / "The Shelf™" fit in to this equation? I know of folks whom I consider extremely intelligent who are also extremely good at compartmentalization. In fact, I think it might take even more intelligence to know the truth about some scientific things, and have the ability ...

They have also made no effort to display the only document written by the hand of an ancient prophet, and THE patriarch of all western religion at that.

Oh yeah - That too.

They did display Abraham's actual journal for a few seconds at one point didn't they?

Re: Original Doctrines

That's right! I remember the dome! It's been a couple of decades. Our tour guide also pointed out where Jesus appeared to Lorenzo. I wonder what is the weirdest thing that has ever happened in that building. I'm guessing pretty weird. Do you think any of so-called-prophets have actually tried the h...

Re: Original Doctrines

... I hadn't heard that, but it sounds right on track. I once got a special behind-the-scenes tour of the SL temple by a sealer who took me to a spot above the Holy of Holies (if I remember correctly) and told that was where Talmage wrote Jesus the Christ. He spoke about it with such awe and revere...

Re: Church fraud investigation

I watched the documentary last night. Bednar’s body language during the national press club speech was very telling. He had his body turned away from the front of the pulpit, perhaps to look at a video screen or perhaps in avoidance. His eyes seemed closed at times and his voice reflection was all ...

Re: Reconsidering participation in ministering

The last time I had any sort of Home Teaching interaction, it was still "Home Teaching." I had been done attending for a while, and I think they had just divided "the ward" again, and there was a new EQ president. Mr Prez showed up on my doorstep, introduced himself and handed me the little sheet of...

Re: Young Adult Sacrament Meeting Talk

I love it when young-uns accidentally bring up reality in front of a MORmON audience. At a "farewell" I listened to a recently returned missionary say something along the lines of: "If the church really is true, people should be flocking to it in droves." My memory tells me that he actually asked El...

I like the one below Joseph. He is happy and likes to laugh. And, no, Mormonism didn’t help me be happy or laugh. Yeah, to answer the question of the OP (without my usual sarcasm): If anything, MORmONism drove me further away from anything that I would consider to be a loving "God". Happiness and l...
