Secret lives of non-believing spouses

As most of you know, as a non-believer I've kept a few things from my wife. Namely tithing, coffee consumption, correspondence on this website and others. It seems that for our marriage, ignorance is bliss. Scarily, if some of these things come to light, I would be in trouble and would have to explain. I do have good explanations for the ones specifically mentioned and do not believe that they are sinful.

In fact I have been thinking of writing the 1st presidency outlining reasons for repealing the prohibition on coffee and tea. I don't know if this would do any good and may cause this issue to come to light to my wife which I don't think would be good.

Any thoughts or advice?

Keep in mind that the 1st presidency do not read your letters. They forward them to your stake president. So, unless you want to inform your stake president of your habit, I do not recommend writing any letters. You could try writing and keep it anonymous but I suppose those would just go in the circular file. The church leaders really do not care what member think or need or anything. So, unless it is your uncle, I can’t see any good coming out of it.

I think you're right alas. It would be cool if somebody like Sam Young or a group of protesters could make a difference. I can understand where a prohibition on alcohol and tobacco makes sense but coffee and tea not so much.

I would think the Q15 would consider you as undermining their authority. By you bringing up logical, reasons why the WOW should go away, you are saying that they do not actually know what they are doing and do not have divine revelation. You, a meer mortal, know more than they do. While it all may very well be true, they don't like when peasants call them out.

If you write to you, at a minimum, it will get referred to your local leadership. If they happen to be in a bad mood, they could order that you be put in your place and order disciplinary action against you. This will bring attention that you don't want.

So if you are trying to keep your true view of the church from you spouse, this may not be the best the wisest option.

I know one person who wrote to one of the Q-15 stooges and got a personal reply. Was it a personal reply from the actual Stooge, or the Stooge's administrative assistant, or the LDS-Bot? Who knows. The subject of the writing was nothing to do with doctrine or policy, it was a personal matter.

I would say that 99.999+% of folks who "write" to any one of the Stooges would have just as much luck getting a reply from the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Thanks for your responses just this guy and what the fluff. It will be interesting to see how long they keep a prohibition on coffee. It seems like there are more and more coffee shops popping up even in provo near byu Well sadly you guys are probably right and it's probably safest to not write such a letter. Well if they ever put out a survey about whether they should end the prohibition on coffee I will definitely let my opinion be known so long as I can remain anonymous.

Of note regarding this thread: MORmON Jesus' website (KSL) recently posted an article from Reuters that touts the health benefits of Evil, Black bean-water infusions, and Evil leaf-water infusions (Coffee and Tea.)

While I myself cannot see LD$-Inc. allowing adherents to drink Coffee and Tea without hellfire and damnation resulting, KSL actually posting an article touting benefits of Coffee and Tea is a bit shocking to me.

Maybe I'm wrong... If so, and the Corporation eventually actually allows "hot beverages" someday, the gaslighting that will ensue will likely be epically epic.

I won't post a link to the article - folks can ask an all-powerful search-engine for the link and hopefully the search results algorithm will learn more about MORmONism and Coffee. As always the comment section of this article is hilarious...
