Book of Mormon Foods

Does the Book of Mormon make any mention of foods eaten by the indigenous peoples such as pemican, wild rice, maple syrup, chocolate, turkeys, buffalo, maize, pumpkins, and beans?

I know Mormons were familiar with maize or they would not have gotten that Children of the Corn moniker. ;)

The reason Socrates was the wisest person in Athens was that he realized how little he knew, and was willing to ask questions to seek answers. He questioned the answers to understand all the ins and out of how the answer was formulated.

Re: What would have happened if JS was successful in selling the BoM copyright?

Smith had seen Solomon Spaulding and Ethan Smith get published. He probably assumed anyone could be published, no matter how it was written. He was right in that a vanity press did publish it after it was paid for by selling the Martin Harris farm.

How heavily has the church invested in Microsoft???
I think Microsoft and Apple are the two top stocks owned by the Church. Tesla is way down on the list with only over a half billion owned.

Apologists say he was only selling the Canadian copyright.

Future Wikipedia writers would have pointed out that Smith helped pave the way for Jules Verne.

Bishop Graey, your congregation will miss you big time when your term is up. It is so hard to find candidates with NOM training.

Re: Church secret dealings?

I think we're talking about a different set of meetings. These don't involve B.H. Roberts. They're more regarding a business deal made by Heber J. Grant that was unknown to general church membership. I have listened to some of the Caldwell Montez episodes but not all. So perhaps I'm wrong? Perhaps ...

Re: Church secret dealings?

The four episodes on Mormon Stories with Shannon Caldwell Montez covered these secret meetings between the Brethren and BH Roberts, and the subsequent meeting between BH Roberts and the intelligentsia of the Church, very well. In the end, there were no good answers for the traditional LDS fiction. R...

Re: Nemo's letter

1. Is it possible for a church, attached to a corporation for tax purposes, to oust the officers of the corporation's board of directors?

2. How likely is it that the board of directors will demand an immediate super secret ex-communication of Brother Nemo before its April Conference?

Re: Church's rainy day safety net

The Brethren got caught up with serving Mammon. I suppose it is possible they might announce a way to serve God with that money in the April General Conference, but there is no way we will hear an apology. We will have to wait and see. Mammon might still hold sway with these fifteen leaders.

Re: Youth activities

But it doesn’t sound like it’s completely fallen apart now that the Boy Scouts have been abandoned. The Young Women seem to now have an equal budget and plan some fun activities. I wondered if the Church would allow the girl's program to achieve parity. The boy's program is no longer limited to sco...

Role of the Cantor

If you've seen Jewish, Catholic, or Islamic services, you have experienced the singing of sacred portions of the text. That was done by a Cantor (the name changes by faith tradition). This was from a very old style, not from the Protestant tradition of Joseph Smith's day. Was it good that this was n...

Mormonism Live has a great podcast that will explain everything in sufficient depth. The Church was used to getting away with deceitfulness and it failed in this instance.

Re: Temple attendance, temple recommend, temple, temple temple!

This is the one aspect of the church that really makes it hard not to want to call it a cult. Maybe the church isn't a cult, but there is a cult that resides within it. Grafting Masonic ceremonies onto a church and having a secret church within a church via the Second Anointing does seem rather cul...
