Re: Thoughts on priesthood blessings and feeling the spirit meaning the church is true
My patriarchal blessing was not only a nope, it was a hell nope. It told me I would be a comfort to my father in his old age. No, thanks, I was to be the biggest thorn in his side in his old age. He is not capable of enough repentance for me to trust him as far as I can throw him, so no way am I go...

Re: Thoughts on priesthood blessings and feeling the spirit meaning the church is true
One of the most powerful spiritual experiences of my life told me to marry my now ex-wife. It's obvious how that turned out. Sometimes those hormone rushes lead to good things, and sometimes they lead to bad things. I think they tend to lead to good more often just because almost any decision usual...

For kicks, Here's a video of Carl Sagan explaining where auditory hallucinations come from: Sagan's apple had a huge effect on me when I was a kid. At some point I think I equated it to the Angel Moroni and Jesus magically appearing in closed rooms without walking through the door. To me, its a mel...

In Gladwell 's book outliers, the athiest Chinese culture was born from tediously tending demanding rice fields (rely on hard work to survive) Athiest china vs other cultures who farmed easier crops - much less work - and chucked loss and gain up to God rather than hard work. We are herd animals, tr...

Re: What to Say to Son
Time will tell. My parents did not attend my baptism, and did not attend my marriage (different faith). At the time, I disconnected myself from it, chalking it up to growing up = leaving parents, which can be kind of true. Now that I'm out, my parents have been amazing. Shortly after I left, my in-l...

Re: AZ abuse case update
What you are really saying here is that the church is evil for lying to the bishops about whether or not they could safely protect the children. It is not the local leaders who are evil, but the top leaders who hire a legal team that lies to bishops and tells them they could get sued for reporting....

It seems like one county to another is similar to one high school to another, some have a good culture, and others a bad one. Police should be required to have at least a bachelor's degree with training similar to a law degree and phycology as well as some EMT thrown in there as well. In Utah, looks...

May you find peace in the promise of the solstice night, that each day forward is blessed with more light. That the cycle of nature, unbroken and true, bring joy to your soul and wellbeing to you. Rejoice in the darkness, in the silence find rest, and may the days that follow be abundantly blessed. ...

Re: We seek praise and to be praiseworthy
I think you can always find connections with a few things, good food, music, appreciation of nature, health. We're all just people, live, laugh, love and all that. This is a great point. It's something I've known intellectually but struggled to actually implement. It is hard for me to get past the ...

Re: We seek praise and to be praiseworthy
I ran across a great quote recently from Adam Smith, the "Invisible Hand" Scottish guy from economics. Man naturally desires, not only to be loved, but to be lovely; or to be that thing which is the natural and proper object of love. He naturally dreads, not only to be hated, but to be hateful; or ...
